The Europeans have real good turbo Diesel engines, more refined than its Asian counterparts. VW-Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, etc have their share of good diesel engines for a few years now.

Meron yan. Consider the now-legendary Toyota 2KD engine, which has powered the base Fortuner, Innova, Hilux and Hiace since it's introduction in 2005 uptil being replaced by the 2GD engine in 2016. With all four models being bestsellers in their segments, combining all of them it's probably the most numerous single commonrail engine model in the country. Being mostly base variant models, many of these are used as workhorse vehicles and easily clocking up hundreds of thousands of kilometers in mileage. Van rentals and UV Express drivers swear by their Hiace's reliability and performance, while base Innova's and Hilux's are extremely popular among company service fleets. I wouldn't be surprised if many of them have hit the 500tkms mark already.

Funny you should mention that. What with VW-Audi Dieselgate scandal uncovered last year, their engines were so advanced that it can detect when emissions testing was being conducted. Smart engine.. ;)

There's also allegations that Diesel vehicles from other manufacturers including, MB, Volvo, BMW, etc., exceeded EU emission limits for nitrogen oxide (NOx) by more than 10 times under normal driving conditions. (Source: Volkswagen emissions scandal - Wikipedia)

They're not so refined after all.

Damn! 1 million kilometers and counting! Huminto ang odo, di bumalik sa 0? Haha~ At least now we know Hyundai diesels can be built to last too. Now that's a driver that knows how to take care of a diesel. Unlike many of those noisy and smoky Accent cabs out there.

Lowest mileage accent taxi ive ridden before was around 700,000+ kms.. Not sure, I thought it should go back to 0kms as well. Baka nasira na rin odo. LOL. Yes, matibay nga siguro hyundai diesel or magaling lang din talaga mechanic nila..

It's likely that they tried to reset or manipulate the odometer and ended up bricking it ...
