yep Toyota is a beneficiary of the credit bubble

as the credit bubble grew bigger, so did Toyota

    banks were lending like crazy

consumers were borrowing and spending like crazy

anyone who was breathing could get a car loan

Toyota had to expand production capacity to meet demand for their cars

the credit bubble helped Toyota overtake GM to become the biggest carmaker in the world

while they were busy increasing the quantity of cars they can produce, they sacrificed some quality

now that the credit bubble has burst, there's less demand for cars

    Toyota now has excess capacity

it has to shrink and re-focus on quality

Do you think I should postpone buying an Altis? I am planning on getting one next month. I am such a big Toyota fan but this is a serious issue.

I am supposed to get an Altis next month. Should I postpone it? I don't wanna buy any other brand but Toyota but if means sacrificing my safety or my family's, then I'd have no choice but to go for a Honda

The part in question is from a Canadian supplier. The supplier of the Thai-assembled Altis is different. The local Altis is still a very safe car, wala accident attributed to the accelerator pa naman.

Since drive by wire ang tech na gamit ng toyota, its even more dangerous kasi electronic component na ang nag cocontrol ng acceleration and there is no way for us to tell kung defective. Also, pwede rin naman na bumabalik ang pedal pero yung electrical signal comming from the pedal is still telling the engine to rev.
Very good caution message for everyone.

Sorry guys but base on my experience with toyota they just dont care with after sales service. Take for example the Land Cruiser Prado, on an average of 4-5 years the dashboard will have a lot of spider cracks. I have reported this and seen this in at least more than 5 other Prados of my friends yet Toyota Motor Philippines will just give you a call promising to do something but after 2,3,4... months NOTHING Happens!!! Our DTI govt agnecy has a very poor customer protection that's why this incidents proliferate. thanks and good luck to everyone coz I do have a 2010 Rav4 too. damn!!!

I'm a 2009 model Altis owner and hearing this news, I became a bit worried. For now, wala pa namang nababalitang "victim" ng problem na 'to, at sana nga wala talaga. I guess the best thing we can do is really be careful in driving, kagaya rin ng sabi dito, safe distance and safe speed. Huwag munang pedal to the metal! Hehe

Tired reading this thread plus the other two topics(thanks mod/admin for moving it).

Simpli lang naman solution dyan sa stuck pedal, press the clutch then the brake or vice versa, just like full stoping from high speed.
Ganyan ginawa ko when my acce pedal stuck two times.
Kung feeling nyo company defect, then go to casa and complaint.

Taka lang ako doon sa nadisgrasya, di ba nya pwede matapakan ang brake?

Panic. Some people don't know what to do when such a situation arises.

It's even stranger. Those new Toyotas with the accelerator problem have eletronic throttle control systems. When you press on the brake while the gas pedal is pushed to the floor, the computer kills engine power, for safety. One magazine in the US demonstrated that a Toyota with ECT with a stuck pedal will stop within a short distance if you slam on the brake.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
