March 22nd, 2015 02:33 PM #1616Hi bros, noob here from cebu, need advice on my planned setup.
Car is a toyota revo diesel, so kinda noisy.
Current setup:
hu - Pioneer deh-x4750BT (1 din)
seps - Pioneer TS-A1305C speakers
Planned setup 1:
amp: rockford punch p600x4 - 20k
sub: dls rw12 (2 ohms) will this match with the amp? - 7k with box
Planned setup 2:
amp: DLS CA51 5 channel amp - ?
sub: dls rw12 (2 ohms) - 7k with box
Notes/Questions/Advice needed:
1. Budget is 40k max.
2. Should I ditch my seps?
3. Which is the better amp? Or any other recommended amp.
4. I don't plan on upgrading it anymore.
5. I'm more of an SQ person, I like the sound of the sennheiser HD650 headphones.
6. Purely indoor listening only, I listen to rock mostly (Tool, Dream Theater, Lamb of God, RATM) but also appreciate some Sade, Sting, etc.
7. 10 in or 12 in sub? Or any other sub recommendation?
8. Discussed with an installer, 5k for deadening, 5k for wires & labor.
9. Am I better off with a cheaper amp? <15k? Car is just a revo.
10. Haven't heard of these in auditions, so I would most probably basing my decision on your input :D.
Thanks much! :D

If it's SQ you're looking for. Your priority will always be the head unit. Purchase a Pioneer 80PRS at its SRP of 16k then use the rest of the budget for constructing your system. Ideally, you should aim for 5-channels of amplification and 2-way speakers. If you can't get it all in one go, then feel free to skip the subwoofer for now.
Alternatively, you can spend the budget on the system chain muna before splurging on the head unit. However, it's only when you have the necessary tools and features will car audio be considered "SQ". Until then, the only thing you can fiddle with is just tonality.

As to what difference that makes? I had an Audeze LCD2 and Senn HD800 last year -- I eventually sold off the Audeze even if it excelled in out-of-the-box tonal. Why? Because the HD800's imaging and staging are just WOW that I can sacrifice the tonality (I haven't found the perfect "pair" yet) for those two.Last edited by jhnkvn; March 22nd, 2015 at 03:56 PM.

March 22nd, 2015 10:06 PM #1618Thanks for the advice sir jhnkvn.
Basically the main reason I want to set up a decent system is to just drown out the diesel engine noise. So not really SQ, but just a decent sounding setup *40k.
I'm thinking if I spend >40k, it would be kind of impractical since the car is just a revo (11 year old car). Maybe when I get a gas-fed car hopefully this year then I can splurge a bit.
So no imaging or staging requirements, just tonality :D
Do you think the rf punch 600x4 is too much for my seps (Pioneer TS-A1305C) ? Kinda mismatched on the price (20k amp vs 5k seps I think). My head is thinking "get <15k amp, get better seps".
I really think a sub would really help a bit on my current setup now. So I would most probably go the amp + sub route.
OT: Haven't heard the HD800 yet, must be pretty good. Have read pretty good reviews about it :D
Thanks!

Oh, in that case, go for the system chain first.
1. Personally, I believe in expensive amplifiers.
2. Still, a 20 grand amp is a bit too much. Go for a 15 grand amplifier that has great power ratings instead and save the money instead.
3. I am not picky when it comes to speakers really.
4. For the subwoofers, I highly recommend JBL ones. They make excellent subwoofers for the price.
5. As to what size, if you can fit a 12", then go for a 12". If you need the space, get a smaller one. Truth is, even 8-inchers is enough for most people.
