    Thank you for your insights.

I have decided to just insist on Window-type ACs. I reckon that it being situated in an island, maintenance of splits would cost a lot for a house that we just live in 5-10 days in a month. As a consumer, I predictably would have to shoulder the travel and lodging expense of the serviceman, aside from his PF. It also occurred to me that I don't want to waste the little time we spend there repairing or having the splits serviced. With Window-types, I can just pull it out, diagnose it and bring it to the mainland if I can't fix it. Buy a spare and use it.

After this renovation, we're going to do another project. That's where I think it's more viable to use splits. I probably would stick to single-split though. I realized that if the condenser of the three splits conks out, there'd be three rooms without an AC. That can be a disaster for some. In a beach island, it can get really humid at times.

*Badsekktor: I think Kolin sucks. Haven't encountered a good unit yet and an owner who swears by its durability.

Now, if you're the installer, you'd like an unreliable brand like Kolin because that'll mean repeat jobs for you.

Sirs ,we're in the market for a split type inverter a/c. We are currently using a 1hp window type carrier a/c. We're choosing between panasonic econavi and carrier xpower. Usage is between 12-18 hours a day. Ano po kaya nag mas matipid and reliable sa dalawa? Saw an old ad of carrier xpower with 53% savings vs. Other inverter brands tapos tong panasonic econavi with 65% savings. Real world experiences from real users(not sales reps) would give us meaningful insight. thanks po.

Anybody use a Samsung 2.5HP inverter split? We need one in the living room.

We have a 1 y/o Panasonic 1.5HP inverter split in the bedroom and so far, it has never failed us. Although, there seems to be some rust forming on the outdoor unit's base, right below where the piping is connected (due to condensation). I think a bit of rust converter and a few coats of anti-rust paint should prevent it from spreading.

I'd very much want another Panasonic for the living room if it were not for the steep price tag. I can get the Samsung for 50k (12 mos. zero interest) with free installation/piping up to 15 feet. The Panasonic equivalent is about 56k and the installation is NOT free (minimum service fee is approx. 7-8k).

Bang-for-buck, I think Samsung's the winner here, but will it be as good as the Panasonic in the long haul?

    Horror SAMSUNG split type aircon.

6/18/2011 bought a Samsung split type aircon 2.0 horsepower
6/23/2011 unit was delivered, but due to recent strong storms unit was installed on 6/28/2011
6/30/2011 unit automatically shuts down after 5 minutes. no cooling and unit is blinking. reported to Samsung
7/2/2011 unit was inspected and compressor was defective. They advise new unit to come in 3 days. That afternoon Samsung called asking for the serial numbers for which I said I will look but she told me that she will call back which she did not. But nothing happened.
7/12/2011 Already not happy. I called them in the morning . They said the person in charge is not in her table. They got my number and cellphone and will return call. By 4:45 pm, no one called, so I called them again. This time, the lady told me after being on hold for 5 minutes that I should call them back again. I said "what, call back again?" Yes she said, she cant do anything except for me to call them back.
7/13/2011 930am I called them . really angry already. I told them that I need to talk to someone who knows what she is doing. Then I narrated the story from day one. Then she said my sales invoice was of poor quality that they could not discern anything. I told them if that was keeping you then why did you not informed me earlier. Then I demanded for the supervisor, she has the nerve to negotiate for a "repair". I told them this was a lemon unit. I asked for a new unit.
7/18/2011 The new unit arrived, but since the delivery guys have no tools and technical know how to remove the said unit . it was agreed to post pone another day. The new unit was not left behind the delivery brought it again with them.
7/19/2011 The technician who were supposed to arrive to remove the old unit is not yet here as of 3:45 pm.

    to be continued.

Samsung really sucks that's why I stay away from their products like a plague (except their phones perhaps, my brother had sturdy samsung phones).

to continue the Samsung split type inverter aircon 2.0 hp

7/19/2011 technician came and remove unit. (around 5 pm)
7/20/2011 my request for a "brand new" unit came in 2 boxes. Before I signed the invoice, I got curious as to whether there could be a mix up in the model. So I ask for the blower unit to be opened. And lo and behold, I saw a dirty unit. They tried to explain it as dirt that can be removed with a cloth. So they did and result was shabby but acceptable. So then I ask to open the compressor. And I saw 2 corners (topside) with deep scratch, first was about 1 inch long and the other 1/4 inch long, supposed to be powder coated but now colored black as the white powder coating got scratched. And then I saw 2 very long scratches (more than 18 inches long) on the top metal or plastic cover ( not sure if plastic). The unit were all sealed with three straps and several industrial type staplers when they arrived this morning before I opened it in the presence of the delivery guys. So I refused to accept and the units were sent back.

My claim to them is they tried to sent me "refurbished units" and not "brand new". For them to claim these as "brand new" would imply that there was no quality control on their part.

If I were to treat my customers the way Samsung treats me, I would be out of business already. (original quote from me, I think)

I think a refund is in order. I want my money back.
