That thought also crossed my mind. Then maybe put a removable partition if you want to cool just half of the room for certain occasions.
The downside is, this approach will probably be 10-20k more expensive. Not to mention the additional outdoor unit using up more space.

Dito sa office namin,- puro Panasonic ang aming split-type ACs....Gamit namin sila from 6AM to 6PM Mon-Fri.... Okay naman ang performance, pero, the units are barely a year old, so I cannot comment yet on their durability/reliability....

May 29th, 2010 11:39 AM #75Kung base sa usual designs ng mga appliance (and also sa mga control systems sa mga industrial applications), usually pag 4hp, laging full power yun when ON... then pag off, syempre walang power...
with inverter type models, the speed of the revolution of the motor can be decreased somewhat depending on the load (kapag malamig na), then the motor can turn slower (thus consuming less electricity) than if it is full power... but most of the savings in electricity is realized upon startup... sa ordinary motor starter, the huge spike in current when starting really takes up the bulk of the consumption.. then pag continuous on na.. okay na... with the inverter type, the inverter slowly starts up the motor and slowly shuts it down, thereby avoiding the huge spike in current when quick starting... dun nakakatipid ang inverter... dyan din yung basis na sinasabi ng mga technicians na hindi maganda yung patay sindi ang aircon... lalakas sa kuryente...
in the plan you have: using 2hp motors to control a 4hp ... load... technically, the only way to do it is to buy 2 units of 2hp models... as you say may divider din sa room.. then operate one or both as needed...
unless you design it like the way malls do (separate ang chiller, separate ang condenser, evaporator etc) that can be operated depending on the load =)...
may mga systems ata na single compressor, multiple vents (yung indoor unit).. this can save electricity to a point.. malamang the design will use just a single thermostat (instead of using 2 thersmostat), so the savings derived is from the assumed lesser frequency ng ON/OFF ng compressor when the temp has been reached... but it wouldn't be an efficient way to do it...

For the internal one, tinanggal lang nila ang cover then put some sort of a funnel under the aircon (gawa sa trapal) to catch the water while they wash the unit. For the external unit, they opened it up and used pressure washer to clean it.
Recently though, we had it cleaned again and this time, they removed the internal unit and cleaned it outside. If I remember correctly, they chared around P1,200 to 1,250 for that service. External compressor was still cleaned via pressure washer.

Just sharing.
We have a lot of power line problems in our area, including brownouts (not the same as blackouts) and voltage spikes. I guess that's the problem living in an industrial area. The voltage range required by this particular A/C is between 220-230V. The nominal voltage in our area is 230V during the day and around 240-245V in the evening (when most industrial machines in our area are turned off).
Anyway, I bought a used 2kW Line Conditioner (aka AVR) for my Panasonic Inverter A/C. Inverter type A/Cs have a lot more electronics in them than traditional ones, almost comparable to a small desktop PC.... and it costs nearly as much. I plan to keep the A/C for at least 10 years, so I hope this little investment goes a long way in air conditioner years. I use a good UPS for my PC, why should my A/C get any less protection? :D

June 14th, 2010 12:54 AM #79bought carrier 3 tonner (manual) and had it installed last week. Problem started 2 days ago when the condenser would automatically shut down after several seconds of operation (made it a point to stay at fan mode for 5 minutes before switching it to cool mode)
so, tumawag ako sa service center which responded the same day. Bago dumating ang technicians, sinubukan ko ulit buksan ang aircon, and to my surprise, it worked without any glitch. Nevertheless, the technicians still assessed the unit and got the level of freon. Initial reading was 65 and they charged it to 70. Sabi nila ok na at hindi na mauulit daw.Was able to use it for 6 hours straight that day.
Unfortunately, when i tried it today, same problem arose. Condenser shut down after about 6 seconds. And when i tried it again after 15 minutes, it worked just fine.
My window type aircons (2.5, 1.5 and 1 horse power) have not given me any problems and they're all panasonic.
so, what could be the problem? Is my unit a lemon? unstable current? (though i tried operating all my window type aircons [total of 5 HP] to see if there would be any glitches but found NONE)

^ There could be a few reasons that would cause that:
1. Low refrigerant
2. High refrigerant - causing the compressor overload/thermal protection to trip
3. Bad compressor
