I can start my 10 monty even on neutral. Keys can be removed at any gear even on drive. The same with a local 09 kia sportage. Not so with toyotas which require stepping on the brake pdal and P before you can start the car or remove the key. But i never heard of any sua on the local sportage.

Surprisingly no SUA also for the same MS model in other countries except in the Phil, and it all started in the year the MS overtook the sales of the other popular SUV., Coincidence??
Maybe one of the Thais at the Mitsu plant assembly in Thailand have an axe to grind with the Pinoys. Maybe he caught his wife being swag by a Pinoy (which always happens).

On the other hand, I CAN'T start my 2010 SE with the gear in D or N or R. It will only start in P and although I can remove the key even when its not in P.
I have yet to test this in my other MS a 2014 GLS-V.

If you can start your MS even the gear is in D, then you should bring it to mitsu to check it.

I've driven my brother's Montero. A slight touch or rest of your right foot on the gas pedal surges the car. Maybe something wrong with the accelerator switch which is no longer the cable type.

There should be some play first before the right foot gas pedal activates. Sometimes, we rest our right foot on the gas pedal. Preparing to accelerate at the right time. But, it just go with that slight touch above it.

A Montero A/T by the way.

I think all ladder frames are in danger of SUA, whether factory defect or human error, Kasi designed for higher torque to carry higher loads. Kelangan humahagibis na lakas ng hatak ng engine parang elf truck

I think it's time for all of you to consider crossover diesels, designed Hindi pang-macho kungdi pampapogi with its sporty looks, car like features pero Kayang Kayang iwan mga ladder suv sa daan

The Tucson comes in mind and the upcoming Sportage

With elections around the corner, sinong politiko sasakay sa issue na ito? Bakit ayaw daanan sa korte? Unless may precedent na decision in favor of MMC... walang habol mga victims.

ABS CBN is the only one who revived and is sticking to the issue. Even the local auto blogs aren't paying attention anymore...

Our position here at Top Gear Philippines is that sudden unintended acceleration simply doesn't exist.

But the complaints seem to persist. Dytianquin doesn't know why, other than a natural tendency on the part of the complainants to want to escape culpability in an accident. "Usually, those who come forward and invoke sudden unintended acceleration have incurred damages that can't be covered by their insurance policies." Meaning that the damages--especially on the third-party vehicles--are too expensive to repair for the Montero Sport owners' insurance policies.

According to Dytianquin, only three of all the complainants have actually gone to the Department of Trade and Industry to file a formal complaint. One of these cases has already been dismissed by the DTI in favor of MMPC, while the other two are pending, said the Mitsubishi executive.

"There was one case in which the CCTV video clearly showed that the Montero Sport's brake lights weren't on upon impact, and that the exhaust pipe was even emitting smoke," Dytianquin told us. The driver, in other words, was stepping on the gas, not the brakes.

But just to appease these Montero Sport owners--since, in the words of Dytianquin, "we don't want to lose them as customers"--their respective Mitsubishi dealers offered to resell the units for them after the repair had been completed.

It's particularly interesting that this issue was revived in a year when the Montero Sport achieved its highest sales since its launch in the Philippines. In 2013, the midsize SUV sold a total of 14,683 units to become not just the best-selling SUV in our market but also the best-selling light commercial vehicle, a title previously held by the Toyota Innova.

    FYI.
Just READ and FOLLOW the instructions in the manual booklet.
If engine is running with no intention to go, selector P and handbrake up.
    Simple lang di ba.

Even Congress already investigated na pala...

This week, the House of Representatives conducted a hearing in aid of legislation on the ‘sudden and unintended acceleration incidents involving Mitsubishi Montero SUVs to the prejudice of public safety with the end in view of protecting and safeguarding consumer rights and welfare.’

The House Resolution No. 1964 introduced by Ilocos Norte Representative Rudy Fariñas was referred to the House Committee on Trade and Industry on First Reading last March 9 under the present Congress.

Ibig sabihin ba nito you can shift the shifting gear lever from P to R, N, D without depressing the brake pedal? Kung ganon design flaws nga😲
