Sharing my personal experience with SUA with my manual car. After taking out the key, I pressed the clutch and changed to first gear due to weak hand brake. After grocery, I went inside the car, inserted the key, then started the engine and the car fast accelerated in itself even with hand brake engaged. I hit the end side of innova before I was able to step in the brake (I pressed the clutch first, not the brake due to panic). Innova was about 3 meters away. Parking guards rushed into the scene due to loud impact. I paid 17k for the repair of Innova.

I am not sure if in AT Montero you need to press the brake before you can start the engine. If not then above can be a common scenario since it is an old habit of older folks to engage in first gear when parking (I suspect in case of AT in D mode).

Those with AT Montero, maybe you can compare what will happen if you are already in D and start the engine with your foot on the brake and not on the brake. Or is this too scary to try? Will the car even start?

^sa AT nasa P or N ang lever bago mo ma-start ang engine.
Bakit naka-engaged ka sa 1st gear during starting? Did you press your clutch before turning the ignition on?

Hehehe.

Tiba tiba na mga mag class suit nito. ABS CBN ba naman eh. Sorry nalang sa mga nadamay sa accidente ng montero, or kung may namatay man. What a responsible car dealer, Mitsubishi.

bossing sabi mo naka first gear yung unit mo pag baba mo diba? baka nga naka first gear pa rin bago pinaandar? Kasi kung manual yung tranny, malabo aarangkada yan kung naka neutral.

Bro hindi SUA yan. Never start a car engaged in gear. That is not how you drive a manual transmission equipped vehicle. Always check first if your transmission is in neutral (juggling of the shifter left and right) before starting the engine.
