Buying a house and lot - utilities (meralco and primewater) need to be terminated and apply new one ba or change account owner lang?
Saka ano pa ina-update?
Or ok lang to retain everything muna then bahala na yung next owner as we plan to sell it after renovation works.

November 12th, 2023 11:25 PM #502if you are buying,
approach meralco for guidance.
inquire from meralco, if previous owner has arrears.
you-the-new-resident might be required by them to settle the old account first, before they connect you to the power.
if you are selling,
inform meralco that you are leaving and settle all accounts and close it.
bahala na new resident to apply.
kasi, if you do not inform them that you are leaving, they will keep addressing the bill to your name.
also, the new resident will not be able to use the meralco bills to his advantage.
good luck.

November 13th, 2023 10:56 AM #505Magagamit mo sana as proof billing documents if malipat mo sa pangalan mo.
Gamit to if some institutions wants to verify your address.
Pero if di mo kailangan proof of billing documents, pwd naman i retain current owner.
Yan ginagawa ko sa current na tinitirhan ko.
Mas magastos kasi at hassle if ipapalipat ko pa sa pangalan ko.

Maybe better to disconnect so you can get refund on your deposit ...

November 13th, 2023 08:38 PM #508kung ako naman ang seller, i will report to meralco that i am leaving, and they should retrieve the kuntador and give me back my deposit or whatever.
why leave the account active, still in your name, even as you do not live there anymore?
in the event that the new owner following you decides not to effect changing the ownership of the billing name, and later leaves the residence with an unpaid bill... it's your name on the bill, for all the inconveniences it might cause you.Last edited by dr. d; November 13th, 2023 at 08:49 PM.

That is exactly what I did Doc, I left the Meralco in my name to the buyer thinking that if he does not pay it, then sya rin ang mapuputulan. I don't think it will have a bearing on my name and if it will, I don't think it will be a problem for me.
Same with the condo I bought, I was paying the Meralco for so many years in the name of the developer until I sold it. Tamad ako mag lakad ng transfer in my name.
As for bill deposit, it's not that big.
