    so eto po mga napalitan:

    cylinder head gasket
    manifold gasket
    valve seals
    sparkplugs
    Piston rings

    after mapalitan lahat,eto ang scenario...
nawala overheating issue been stuck on a heavy traffic almost 2hrs nov.1...then for me thats a good sign kc steady sa 1/4 ang temp gauge ko. . .

Why is it that they insist on removing the thermostat? I remember when I had the radiator cleaned, that guy kept on suggesting to remove it. I just smiled back.

Maybe because the main concern is overheat based on the gauge which relies also on the thermostat.

By removing it, the only indicator will be gone and the clueless owner would be happy since di na nagooverheat...

Cars with two way thermostat will be overcooled. Hindi nga naman mag overheat, overcooled naman.

Cars with three way thermostat will overheat if you remove the thermostat.

Tsk tsk tsk..

so what does the thermostat do in a basic engine?

in the tropics, the thermostat's function is to have the engine reach working temperature faster.
when the engine is cold, the thermostat is closed. the coolant in the cylinder block has nowhere to go, and therefore heats up fast.
as the temp increases, the thermostat opens up. this allows the hot coolant to leave the engine block and go into the radiator, where it is cooled. it then goes back to the engine, where it cools the latter such that it does not overheat.

so why do we want the engine to reach working temperature fast?
the engine is more fuel-efficient at working temp.
it is also more efficient. period.

so what happens if the working temp is not reached fast?
we spend more for our fuel. just a bit. but more, nonetheless. and, it spews out more pollution.
also, the engine is less efficient. less oomph.

so why does mechanic recommend thermostat be removed?
it's one less part to malfunction.
and because he does not know why the designer placed it there in the first place.

    heh heh.

Excellent explanation on the function of thermostat. This should be helpful for those who are starting to learn the basics of car maintenance.

The old school mechanics who would even say that it will run without it, can be ignored politely.

I've had overheating problems last month. Now the initial observation was, its a cyclinder head issue since nauubos yung fluid sa radiator at reserve at bumubulwak nung tinest yung flow ng coolant/water. My question is, should I be concerned that its a cyclinder head issue since di nag overheat at stable na yung coolant supply, na di nag drain or apaw at wala naman yung one of the signs na milky white substance sa oil cap?
