I admire the testing there, sir. Still, I'd never dare bet against the elements. No one has ever won. Besides, long learnt things done right seldom get redo calls.[emoji4]

PPR are pretty new(less than 50yrs in the market), but comparing to PVC they could handle variations of heat and pressure, and more flexible/leak-proof(if properly fused) when subjected to physical stress. PVCs are here for more than 50yrs and Id say-based from experience(comparing to PPR) its more prone to leaks esp the joints if improperly welded by solvent/cement-it gets brittle over time when exposed to sun/chlorine and joints tend to leak when subjected to physical stress or sometimes as simple as ramming the water pressure. But, PVC's are cheaper, easier to install without using special tools.

With the advent of China steel using poor metallurgy, those galvanized pipes tend to corrode faster and break. So the much practical choice nowadays are plastics either HDPE, PVC, or PPR. I'd go with HDPE on service entrance and PPR inside-house plumbing.

Nagpagawa kami ng gate na natapos lang this February. After few weeks/days hirap na isara at buksan, gumagalaw daw yung lupa ng isang poste, lumulubog ng ilang mm. Baka daw yung ginagawang village malapit sa amin, maraming heavy equipment at nagpapatag at nagtatabon ng creek.

Sabi nung gumawa eh hindi daw makakatulong yung pag lagay ng tubo sa taas ng poste between the 2 post as brace. Hintayin na lang daw mag settle yung lupa then pa adjust yung gate. Baka daw ma hatak lang yung isang poste.

Meron naman nag suggest sa akin na makakatulong daw yung brace gitna ng poste. Iniisip ko baka ayaw lang gawin nung gumawa dahil fully paid na. Although na adjust nya yung welding para mas malayo ng konti yung 2 pinto ng gate at madali masara.

or the entire poste shifted, hence the closing edges are now overlapping?

i imagine,
whatever written or implied warranty is in effect, does not cover geologic movement.

on the contrary,
i think a brace should minimize non-rectangular-ness, if it is strong enough.
one below ground and one above the gate.
but then, it might turn parallelogram... more braces?

is this in the same area where a prominent MD's house collapsed as a result of geologic movement?

Nag dikit pero hindi naman over lapping kaya nasasara pa rin although medyo mahirap. Yung poste daw ang bumaba kaya nag dikit yung 2 gate. Ang mahirap eh ipasok yung bolt latch ng gate dahil hindi aligned although na ayos naman today kaya naipasok na although mawawala na naman sa alignment pag gumalaw bumaba ulit yung poste.

At first I was considering na brace lang sa taas, then your suggestion makes sense na brace sa baba and taas, and then sabi mo baka maging parallelogram [emoji23]. I don't know if I should wait for the ground to settle before fixing, or do what you suggested and maybe it will be a long time before it misaligned again. . I don't want to keep throwing money at it until it's solved.

just occasional welding adjustments here and there, so's you can open and close the gate easily enough. i shudder to think how ugly that gate would look like afterward, but at least it's functional.
after some time, the ground may have stabilized.

the ground may be as solid as solid can be,
but the poste was not built with a sturdy-enough base...

I'm not sure about it being sturdy, yung brother in law ko ang nag manage nung gumagawa pero sabi naman nya malalim naman daw yung poste. Dati kasing hills itong lugar namin kaya assumption ko gumagalaw talaga. Or maybe your right, baka kailangan lang mag settle ng lupa.

I think I'll ask for the estimate for braces above and below the gate, then decide from there. Thanks for the tips Doc.

The proper way to do gate columns is to have both connected by a below-grade tie beam. This prevents differential settlement & misalignment between those 2 gate columns. Oftentimes, on gates close to a building structure, I'd go beyond & connect those fence/gate columns to the structure.
We can't prevent natural ground movement or settlement, but structural misalignment is very much addressable.

but in the severest of examples, the foundation must have cost as much as the house.
