Ehehe! My mistake.... if a 4JG2, go, go, GO! Maintenance and acquisition may still be a little more expensive than that of a Hilander but surely is all worth it. The challenge here is getting a well-maintained, local unit. If you see one and is priced fairly, that'll be a perfect Chjristmas gift to yourself.

hehe, thanks sirReally looking into these 4JG2 models since I've read a lot from you guys about the 4JX1
How about the suspension, aircon, electricals? no major headaches? I've seen some units selling for 520-530K, would this be a fair price, assuming it's in good condition? Looks well-kept also(at least from the photos).

Honestly, 4JA1 mounted on your XTRM is a good engine. Its 2.5L direct injection is much efficient than a 4JG2 3.1L indirect injection. Direct injection engines are more efficient, stronger but noisy. kung 4JB1 2.8L also direct injection with intercooler turbo ang nilagay nila sa crosswind maganda sana.
Mahirap humanap ng 99 trooper kasi kaunti lang nilabas because transition unit ito. Old engine new facade kasi siya. Owners keep them because its low maintenance, a true workhorse, four wheel drive on the fly and wala ng papalit na mas magandang model kasi stop production na.
Engine maintenance is about the same as your crosswind just for bigger filters and more oil. Suspension and drive train is what makes it expensive, bigger shocks, brake pads, disk, tires, balljoints, bushing and supports.
I am a satisfied owner, if you find a 99 trooper that is well maintained for less than 500 thousand get it.

I've seen one sa net selling for 530k, looks well maintiained too. If only I had the money now
I think the extra costs on the parts would all be worth it since as you said it's a true workhorse and is low maintenance as well. My only concern now is the availability of parts, since stop production na? Thanks again!

Walco, Jayson and Isuzu Philippines always been a good source of parts.
Ebay and Banawe are also a good source. Just remember that if you need parts that needs to be LHD trooper you source it at Ebay US like steering column/box etc. while engine and other parts that can come from RHD bighorns without any problems like power steering pumps, hydrovac etc. goto Banawe or Ebay Uk.
PM me if you have problems sourcing, i might have it in my "bodega"
Goodluck!

Hope this help.
