After spending some time setting up the DSP settings, I'm really loving the sound quality of the Kicker set installed on the CRV which I posted previously.
All songs sound much fuller now. The sound stage is really good for songs which are vocals-heavy (i.e. acoustic, mellow), then there's thunderous bass for hip-hop beats. I also like that there's enough clarity to hear different instruments for alt rock songs.
Planning to get a similar setup for the Civic. Is 20k enough for a decent set of 6 speakers plus a sub, powered by a decent amp? Will use stock HU since too many controls are integrated into it.

20k is a stretch but you can check with Jeff Tan of Araneta Car Accessories for budget meal setups. 20k for a pair of separates plus a subwoofer together with the wirings and stock HU integration kit would be doable but you need to spend extra for the amp.

Kicker equipment is more on the loud side but they do have good amps. I’m not just a fan of their speakers. 40k would be good enough to get you a 2-way passive setup (separates with sub and 4-channel amp) using DLS or Focal or Morel equipment. That would also cover the wiring, installation, integration kit, and subwoofer box (sealed for less space). I suggest you visit Mickey’s Autosound and Simplesound as they are near Pasig area.

Looking to get only an underseat sub, which is sufficient for me already based on what's in the CRV. Then will replace 2 tweeters plus 4 speakers.
Mickey's is quite far (other side of Pasig from my place) but I know the place is Mecca for car audio so I'll pay them a visit someday. Thanks for the tips!

A separate ser (pair of tweeters plus pair of midbass speakers with passive crossovers) paired with a subwoofer is what you need. Rear speakers don’t matter if you have tuned properly the midbass, tweets, and subwoofer.
I didn’t mind driving all the way from Parañaque to go check out Mickey’s shop when I had my old car’s audio gear updated.

^^^ Why not spend that 10k for a much better set of speakers? Deadening is great once you want to do the whole nine yards in audio upgrade.
