Yes, for sure Toyota will get out of this problem. But, this experience will surely be remembered by other car owners. This will make a mark to them that before, Toyota went down. They've undergone a quality failure.
This too, also might affect Toyota's sales. For others it`s automatic to avoid the brands that was recently involved with a problem. Especially this, it has a connection with our safety. 19 deaths was claimed by these problems and soon, the numbers might arise ( knock on wood ) .
I just hope though, Toyota will learn from this. They should go back to their old way ... satisfying each and every customer with their vehicles. Just like how me and my father were satisfied with our AE101 Corolla.

I too was considering to purchase an Avanza this year. But would I still buy one even though what you said MIGHT be true? HECK...NO! Why? At this point, we don't know what other stuff Toyota is hiding. So to be safe from future headaches, it is better to watch this fiasco from the sidelines for now.

The design problems of Toyota has been going on for years.
Ang pinagkaiba e hindi nila matakasan agad itong nangyari. For now the problem are safety issues and this has made Toyota cars the "death machines" of the times.
Dati "Toyota yan ganda resale value", now "Toyota yan, naku baka tayo mamatay!".
A massive propaganda and advertisement campaign is really needed by Toyota. I bet dealers are now feeling the reaction to the issue from prospective buyers. Extensive promotions have already began from Toyota.
I do hope they survive.Last edited by OldSchoolHack; February 7th, 2010 at 07:48 PM.

Kung oras mo na, oras mo na kahit gamit mo pinaka-safe na sasakyan.
Well, there's an incident last two months ago happened in Bacolod,
A two month old Avanza with stuck steering wheel.
He is driving at the speed of 70kph.
The car stop right after hitting a tree. SRS Airbag activated.
The driver is fortunately survive without injury.
Until now we heard nothing what happened(investigation).
Baka nagkabayaran or whatever, hope I'm wrong.
I bought my Avanza last Aug09, no regrets, nandito na.
The accelerator of avanza still an old school design, not the "electronic pedal".
Madali lang naman kung sakaling magka-stuck ang pedal,
'sus, brake kalang then clutch, 'yan din ang sagot ng wifey ko kung ano ang gagawin nya if ever ganoon mangyari.
Then dalhin sa casa to complain, if no action di sa media na.
No offensive driving still the right thing to do.

here is the update. when we went home to bacolod last december, we personally saw the mess of a unit. we "confronted" toyota and argued that we cannot accept a unit that is simply repaired (the chassis was already hit in addition to other major damages). after some "convincing", toyota was "accomodating" and came out with a damage assessment of about PHP520,000 and will recommend a replacement to a brand new unit. kung puede lang kunin ang cash why not and then we will just buy another brand. but this is not an alternative. anyway, puede naman ibenta yung bagong unit pag nakuha na. anyway, right now, this is toyota's recommendation to the insurance company and the local insurance company has, we are told, made the same recommendation for approval of their head office in manila.
waiting game pa rin. in the meantime, status quo muna
but this much i can say. it had to take the local DTI to call them before toyota could even come out with the damage estimate.sadly, customer service fails big time as we were not even apprised of the damage estimate until we had to go there ourselves
