my compressor is making this strange sound whenever I'm cruising at NLEX, I had it check by an aircon shop and told me that its for replacement na.

kindly describe the strange sound.
can you make the sound appear by revving the engine while idling?
is it continuous or intermittent?
also, does it affect your aircon's cooling ability?

what test did the aircon shop do, that was their basis for their advice for replacement?

mine might be on the way as well as i'm hearing a slight noise coming from the compressor each time the AC kicks in. in the vios, i'm not hearing anything other than a slight raise in engine RPM. but nothing from the compressor.

The sound only appears during mid or high revs but at idle and slow moving there's no rough sound. The sound really comes from the compressor because whenever I turned off the AC during high speed & revs the sound disappeared. I will have my aircon check and repair this weekend hopefully they'll able to fix the problem.

continuous, uniform sound.
intermittent sound, even when varying high rpm.
whistling sound whose frequency varies with rpm.
whistling sound that does not change frequency with rpm.
grinding sound.
whomping sound.
clicking sound.
scratching sound.
squeaking sound.
hissing sound.
other sound.

i had the same problem last year, turned out to be the alternator. after they replaced the alternator the sounds were gone. maybe you could have it checked?

kapag nagloko na ay no choice but to replace the alternator?

Replaceable naman. from what i heard and read, the bearing fails usually around 40k-50k kms mark. Sakit daw ng GD engines including the current fortuner

kasi,
my then-near-new 2005 innova's alternator failed within 2 years of purchase.
casa replaced the alternator, charged to me.
wala pa akong masyadong alam noon, as the model was only recently arrived in the country.
the replacement alternator still works fine, even after over 100K km.
i still have the "failed alternator" somewhere here.

the symptom was non-charging.
it did not have any strange sound.

I know hindsight is 20/20 but that could've easily been a straight-up warranty claim.
