November 25th, 2010 06:23 PM #361^^ Mahirap kasi i-PPP yung NR at PNR line. No investor in his right mind would pour his/her $$$ into PNR, they'll just lose their shirt.

*Baludoy: Yup, yan po yung mga A/C na DMUs.
Ang mahirap kasi sa PNR, there are just so many Informal Settlers along the line, mga 85,000 na IS, and this is the NHA identified ones, hindi pa kasama dito yung mga NHA mapped.
Another problem ay yung paano masesecure yung buong line. Pilferage of Pandrol clips, rail ballast, etc. is very rampant.

There is a huge increase in riders in the last six months but the trips did not increase, the time did not extend. No wonder it's crowded.
Why can't they match the schedule of the LRT/MRT?

^^ There are only 6 three-coach DMU trainset currently in service today (5 actually, the 6th is reserve train). Train schedules got really messed up when a DMU unit (DMU-02) was sent to Naga last June. PNR sent her back to Tutuban this November.
Donated JR EMUs are scheduled to be delivered this December. But this will still be reconfigured.
Additional brand new Hyundai Rotem DMUs will only be delivered once Phase II (Alabang-Calamba) is completed; however PNR is already requesting that the Phase II DMUs be delivered/sent na due to the rising amount of passengers.

Higher SLEX toll? Use train instead, says PNR
By Sandy Araneta (The Philippine Star)
Updated December 02, 2010 12:00 AM
MANILA, Philippines - Philippine National Railways (PNR) General Manager Junio Ragragio claimed yesterday that the planned toll increase in the south Luzon Expressway (SLEX) could make the train the best alternative for commuters from Manila to Laguna.
Ragragio was reacting to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling that dismissed the petition of Albay Gov. Joey Salceda to stop the toll increase and remanded the case back to the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) to review and implement the rates presented by the private operators of SLEX.
“We encourage the riding public who will be inconvenienced by the possible increase in bus fares plying the Manila-Biñan, Laguna route to use the PNR trains. Our fares are very affordable and our coaches are air-conditioned. Our fares are presently a third of the price of what the bus and jeepney fare costs. Based on reports, bus fares would dramatically increase once the SLEX toll hike would be put in effect,” Ragragio said.
He said that the PNR is currently undergoing rehabilitation and upgrading their locomotives and coaches, despite budget limitations, to better serve the commuting public.
“The PNR has been favored with a donation of some 83 train coaches from Japan Railway East. We only need national government funding support to bring them to our country. Should DBM (Department of Budget and Management) release this fund, we will be in the best position to provide a better alternative commuter service to the affected riding public, considering PNR’s very affordable fares,” Ragragio said.
He added that they are also fortifying passenger control gates to address the increasing number of passengers entering the train stations.
The PNR expects an increase of commuters in the coming Christmas rush as merchants and traders from the south of Manila visit Divisoria to purchase goods and sell it in their own localities.
Ragragio said the PNR is ready to shorten the waiting hours of passengers to board the train as part of the expected increase of railway users.
“Currently, the PNR has a 20-minute interval shift during peak hours and that is from 7 to 8 o’clock in the morning and 4 to 6 o’clock in the evening. We will shorten the intervals anticipating passenger demand,” he added.
Reports said Gov. Salceda expressed concern over the economic impact of the SLEX toll hike to Bicol and said that an estimated P480-million annual net resource outflow from his province will be affected that would result in the failure of achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MGD) in this part of the country.
Operators of provincial buses plan to file their own petition for a fare increase once the SLEX toll hike is implemented.
The South Luzon Bus Operators Association president Homer Mercado said they have no alternative but to pass on to the passengers the effect of the SLEX toll hike.Last edited by ghosthunter; December 20th, 2010 at 05:39 PM.

December 7th, 2010 02:48 PM #3691 dead, 5 hurt in taxi-train collision in Manila
12/07/2010 | 08:47 AM
A person died, and five were seriously injured on Tuesday after a southbound PNR train smashed into this taxi at a railroad crossing in Pandacan. Danny Pata
What would have been a joyous occasion turned into tragedy, as a 17-year-old girl was killed and five people were injured after a train in Manila's Pandacan district rammed the taxi they were riding early Tuesday.
Radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported the children were on their way to a hospital for a checkup required for their adoption visas when the accident occurred.
DzBB's report identified the fatality as Gemma Reyes, 17.
It said the children were from the White Cross Children's Homes in San Juan City were on their way to the St. Luke's Medical Center for the checkup.
Sheila May dela Cruz, one of those hurt in the accident, said taxi driver Deogracias Fajardo, 60, insisted on crossing the railroad tracks despite an oncoming train.
Dela Cruz said she had pleaded with Fajardo not to cross the tracks yet, but he ignored her, the report said.
It added those rushed to the Ospital ng Maynila were Dela Cruz, Glory Jean Camillas, Ronalyn Lozano, 10; Rachel Lozano, 8; and Regine Lozano, 6.
Senior Police Officer 2 Danilo Quiamzon of the Manila Police District Station 10 said the incident occurred between 6 and 6:30 a.m. at the corner of Laura and Carreon Streets.
“As reported by local village councilors, the passengers of the taxi were injured. One of them was a child," Quiamzon said in an interview on dzBB radio.
Citing sketchy initial reports from Barangay 864 councilor Manuel Santander, Quiamzon said the train was heading for Laguna when it collided with the taxi. — LB
