test driven a 4x4 VL a few days ago. power wise, kapareho lang sa navara sport ko. but the steering is indeed lighter. i need to check the steering components sometime in the future. seems to me the pumps are the same but the the hoses could have different inside diameters/lengths. if this is the case, i will retrofit.

Regarding Nissan's Red Color, I personally don't like it as it's more of a candy red than anything else. But that's me. I prefer the execution of Red Colors with Mitsubishi, Ford and Mazda. I'm not mentioning the Red of the German brands as they are not as "common" to be placed in comparison to what is being discussed here.

I was amazed kanina nung nag test drive ako ng VE o VL variant sa World Trade.

Based on my test drive, it's not that there is slow delivery of power to the wheels, but rather the transmission shifting.

It feels like the transmission takes too long to shift up from first gear to second and second to third.

I tried manually shifting it up when the revs or speed was enough but there was more than 1 second delay before it actually shifts up.

    EDIT:

Just between the three PPVs, Montero shifts the fastest, Fortuner shifts the slowest (to me). The Terra is smack dab in the middle in terms of how quick it responds to manual override shift inputs.

In terms of letting it shift automatically, it is slightly slower in shifting from 1st to 2nd when you compare it to the current Fortuner. You'll notice it in the revs. You need to somewhat kick it up close to 2500rpm before it shifts. While for the Montero and Fortuner, you are closer to around 2000rpm and it is fine when shifting.

For me, since it takes a little too long to shift out of first, it feels like the is more hesitation when building up momentum. But once you have shifted out of first and second, it feels more normal for something that has the most torque/power.

    My take on the matter.

so, the transmission sapped the engine of its power.
i had the same "high shift point issue" with the 2003 cedia mx cvt.
    it gargled gas.

That's strange. Mine shifts at around 1800 rpm when I go easy on the pedal. With deeper and quicker throttle input it holds the gears a bit longer. The manual shifter isn't necessary imho.

It's quick and fast enough but jaggerx is right that it's on the heavy side. Which is ok for me since it is also one of the biggest PPVs. The extra interior space makes the porky curb weight worth it for me.

I love the brakes. Strong, well modulated and progressive. The steering is still on the heavy side though. 3 point turns are its worst enemy. At 140kph it's a bit too light naman. Haven't taken it above that but it feels like the steering is gonna be too light at 180kph.
