And then somebody else will point out that it has happened to the Fortuner. And the Everest. And the Civic. And, apparently, the Avanza.
People are afraid of Monteros? I'm scared ****less of absolutely everyone else on the road.
In this case, the likely culprits are either pedal entrapment by the mat (which would partly explain why the brakes couldn't be pressed, because the mat is bunched up under the pedal) or a sticking gas pedal... at full throttle, there is no vacuum to feed the brakes, which means the pedal gets very, very hard.
-
But, this is on gasoline cars, which have a throttle... turbocharged cars typically have no vacuum, and turbodiesels have no throttle plate... so the Montero Sport would likely have a vacuum pump. Which still introduces a second failure necessary to make all of that happen.
In the end, however, it's still possible for the brakes to glaze and overheat if she didn't firmly press down on the pedal and rode them lightly while the car was accelerating.
This particular case, however, was most likely not driver error. What remains to be seen is whether it was physical pedal entrapment by mat or a mechanical pedal failure. Which, again, would require proper documentation of the crash scene, including the interior of the vehicle and the pedal assembly.Last edited by niky; November 30th, 2015 at 11:37 PM.

Nice read.
Tingin ko kahit mapatunayan ng iba na walang problema ang montero, ipipilit pa rin ng abs cbn. Syempre mapapahiya sila pag wala pala talagang problema
