June 1st, 2014 08:00 AM #51Ito isa sa magandang point na hindi most of the time mag work yung magandang school or pahirapan pumasa na school, I have a brother in law na nasa Canada, dun wala nirerecognize na school abroad, kung gusto mo maging professional dun, aral ka ulit at ipapa evaluate mo ang transcript mo kung ilang subjects/units pa aaralin mo.

Assuming the school is top notch, assuming the instructors/professors are top notch, assuming they use the best books and references, there is still the big factor: the student. Having been an educator for over twenty years, I can say that even if the instructor turns green, blue or yellow, if the student does not want to learn or can apply what he went to school for it just another exercise of futility.

Even the best apple tree in the best climate on the best farm does not have all the best fruits at all times. There are so many variables.

Yes, but in this discussion, the student is the SAME.
Hindi naman yan student A na masipag goes to crap school vs student B na tamad goes to good school.
The student is the same. Are you telling me that his chances of a good career start is the same whether he goes to a good school or not?

Depending on the prospective employer, depending on the applicant, opportunity and availability of a job position matters.

June 1st, 2014 10:27 AM #58I hire lots of people. Trust me, for management track jobs, product or project associates, we are very very biased towards ateneo, la salle and UP. Am not saying we wont hire outside. Because we do. But 19 out of 20 times we/I hire from those top three schools. My work is hard enough and the competition is tough enough that i only want good soldiers with me. On average ( i know there are exceptions) their communication skills, presentation skills, use of powerpoint and excel, analytical and self starter skills are better than others. You have to be confident, well prepared and extremely good in communication (business English) to present to SVPs and partners. And yes this is for entry permanent positions. Afterwards, for higher positions i look for accomplishments and experience and less at the school.
But its a chicken and egg issue. We only pirate from other big companies who probably have the same standards we do for entry positions.
