i remember reading that even while smith was filming the tail end of the harry potter franchise, she was already cancer stricken. she just decided to soldier on because of her love for her craft and her dedication.

She did justice to the role as did Alan Rickman.

as an aside,

for fans of of alan rickman's "condescending tone",
watch "something the Lord made". he does it so well there, as well.

also,
as a medical fan,
just hearing the names of medical pioneers in that movie, sent shivers down my spine.
imagine, alfred blalock as the co-main event, and hearing denton cooley as a medical intern...
