Hello Stan:
Greetings and Welcome to our thread.
Nice truck.
Great to hear that it's still soldiering on after all these years.
Note: and I quote -
"I'll probably do a proper engine conversion in the near future with a Ford Ranger Turbo inter-cooled 2.5L but that's another story."
I LIKE THE WAY YOU THINK.
BTW - are you currently located in Luzon or in Mindanao?
Keep on trucking!!!
Best Regards,
Dusky Lim
P.S. Dear Guys:
I was able to download a decent copy of a video I saw when I was young (a very long time ago) and its a classic - its called "The Speed Merchants".
Its about motor racing - turned me on to the whole thing.
I will bring a DVD that anyone who's interested at the next EB.

June 28th, 2010 08:49 AM #933Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I'm afraid that I forgot to post that I'm currently living in Davao City. I was born and raised here, I only went to Manila for College.
It's great to see a lot of Mazda B-series trucks still being loved by their owners through these threads. I'm afraid I don't see a lot of well cared for B-series trucks over here. The few that I see running are rather worn out and doing pedestrian duty as utility trucks.
I would have loved to have done the Ford Ranger engine swap the first time around but the Ranger was still relatively new back then and surplus Ford Ranger engines were hard to find(and expensive). My second option was a turbo-charged engine from the Mazda MPV but that was also nowhere to be found at the time. I had to get another engine fast since the current engine had already bent a piston rod and my truck was languishing in the shop waiting for it's new heart.
Anyhow, I'm content(but far from happy) on how the current Hyundai 2.5L engine swap worked out. I may have lost a bit of top speed due to the lower final drive ratio and balance problems with the prop shaft, but I'm loving the improved torque when I'm hauling heavy loads uphill.
If I ever get around to fixing the vibration problems I'm having, I might even try to slap on a turbo, manifold and injector assembly from the 2.5L Mitsubishi Pajero engine(I believe I have the same engine but license-produced by Hyundai and normally aspirated). I'll probably skip the inter-cooler assembly tough since it's too much trouble for a truck that rarely sees highway driving anymore.
But those are all long-term plans. I'm still recovering from June tuition fee sticker-shock.
For next month, I'll probably have my rims repainted since they're looking a bit worse for wear. Which color do you guys think would look better on my truck? Gunmetal Grey or Bronze Metalic(a'la Subaru STI)?

Dear carebear and stan:
The last time I asked (January of this year) the WLT-31 (turbo version of the original 2.5 liter WL-31) was Php 38 thou.
That's from a variety of 2nd-hand shops in and around calle Antipolo and Batangas streets in Tondo.
Pwede pa daw tawaran yun (hanggang 36 or 35 ang bulong nila).
However, ALL of the available motors had Automatic Transmissions ONLY.
Its not too much of a problem for me as I can swap in my existing manual tranny (after I have it overhauled).
I can also keep my old engine (just in case) as a spare.
So dagdag sa presyo yung manual transmission for a B2200.
I frankly don't have any idea kung magkano lalabas yun.
I haven't seen any 2nd hand intercoolers worth buying - they are all beat up and bad.
I personally believe from my own experience with it, that using a water-methanol injection system will work better than a non-high end intercooler.
Figure about 5k for the labor involved.
I really don't know how much shipping the engine all the way to Davao City will cost.
I don't recommend using the local shipping lines - bukod sa MAHAL, unreliable pa sila.
When I worked for Hayes International I personally saw that local shipping costs were 5 to 10 times higher than international!!!
Wala ba kayong 2nd-hand shops there?
Lets say a round figure of about 50K - not including tranny.
Regards,
Dusky Lim

June 29th, 2010 03:23 AM #937Actually, for some reason my shop couldn't get the color right. I simply wanted to return to the original color(cream daw eh sabi sa CR ko) but I got a lighter shade instead. Apparently the based the color on the gas tank cover which was already faded. Kaya ayun, mukhang faded color pa rin sya kahit an repaint na. LOL.
I'll try to find your album here sir. Nangangapa pa ako sa site. hehehe.
*bors - Thanks sir. The ride should be the same as most stock mazda B2200 since it's just a body-lift. I removed the Banawe-installed "suspension lift" when I installed the current body-lift. I still use stock-length shocks though they have been replaced with KYB Gas struts a long time ago. BTW- are there RANCHO shocks available for our trucks?
However, due to my Truck's double-duty as a service vehicle for our business I've added 2 "leaves" to each of the rear leaf springs to improve its heavy-loading abilities and that has caused my ride comfort to suffer considerably. I'm looking for a "helper-spring" kit though so I can return my rear leaf springs to the original spec and yet retain a heavy-load capability with the helper-spring.
*duskylim- thanks for the info regarding prices of engines there in Manila. Di rin pala magkalayo sa presyo ng mga makina dito sa Davao. Of course, you have a broader pool to select from over there which is a big plus when searching for a good unit.

sir, rancho shocks are available for our mazda trucks. in fact, mine's equipped with rs9000x 9-way adjustable front and rear. u can also opt for rs5000 which is almost half of the 9000x's price. length of each depends on the height/setup ofyour truck.
helper springs? get the loadplus brand. available here in manila. but i think it's also available there..? price range P3000-P4000.
kindly backread & check some photos of our trucks here in this thread as wells as in the EB thread.
thanks,
