Good day, I'm newbie to this forum & planning to purchase pick up (between Isuzu Dmax LX MT or newly added variant 2.2 Ford Ranger XL 4x2 MT both between 993k & 959k respectively) within this months good for business & pleasure. Whats the advantage & disadvantage of owning Isuzu Dmax LX than to other Brand of pick up trucks? Hope you'll enlighten me bringing the chosen 1 for me. Thanks & God bless!

The Ranger 2.2 TDCi Duratorq is "supposedly" mo-betta than the old yet current Philippine-issue D-max. Peak power wise, handling, and suspension, it should be better. Word has it though that it has a mellow hit, or is soft off-the-bottom as if there is a lag at low rpm, especially for "quite a huge than what we normally see" as mid-size diesel pickup. The old D-max does not have any lag off-the-bottom, it can stay at low-revs, it can lug you uphill at low revs, but at the same time, it doesn't have that much peak hp also.... Therefore it has lesser ooomphh feel at high-revs. If you are a high-rev loving guy, then go for the Ford, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, and Toyota pickups. Both the Isuzu by nature is not as rev-happy as the others, and arguably, the Toyota pickups and Ford 3.0-litre and the new 3.2-litre lugs very good also at low revs.

Fuel efficiency wise, i don't know which is consumes less. Although, my personal bet between the Ford 2.2 and the D-max 3.0 iTEQ, is the D-max where it's firmly established around the world that it is the fuel-efficient pickup of them all.

Honestly, if you'll be aiming for the current D-max, just buy any 2010 model, used or 2nd-hand. Like i said, our D-max here is already 2 generations behind the all-new D-max RT-50

    Goodluck and cheers!

Thank you for the review Sir! I think it will be a toss-up at the end between Huge 2.2 Ford Ranger XL 4x2 MT Hi-Rider and Reliable 3.0 Isuzu Dmax LX 4x2 MT. Hope my decision will be bang for buck truck.

By the way sir, should you decide on the D-max, may i please impress upon you just wait for the all-new D-max RT-50 1st quarter next year. Don't waste money on the current Philippine-model now (10 years old na yan chief ;))....

Another development i'd like to share with you is that Volkswagen will now be in Philippines late this year, around December. Chances are in 2014, its pickup, the Amarok 2.0 TDi (base-model and twin-turbo model) will also be offered. People are clamouring for it alongside other VW models ;)

Hold on to your (liquid) asset for a moment as next year might be an exciting, and moreso, the following years to come in the pickup segment. Take it as a brotherly advice from an owner of two Isuzu D-max ;)

    Cheers at goodluck!

If it's the new D-max 3.0 iTEQ VGS Turbo versus the new Ranger 2.2 TDCi, the new Isuzu is HEAPS better. Even when you pit only the new Euro-version only D-max 2.5 iTEQ twin-turbo against the Ford, the Isuzu is still HEAPS better.

The new 2.5-litre Euro-issue only D-max, just for info sir, came in 2nd to "the king" Ranger 3.2 TDCi 5-straight cylinder during the 2013 International Pickup Award competition held in the UK. It even bested the vaunted Volkswagen Amarok 2.0 TDi twin-turbo that finished only in 3rd. No word though on the other strong contenders, the Triton (Strada in Pinas), the ever-trusty Hilux, Navara etc.... Perhaps, though i have no info about them, they were eliminated in the preliminary round before judges even decided which pickups will carry on further hehe.... Even the older/ previous 3.0-litre D-max with VGT had always been a consistent placer in this event. In fact, even in the Austrian-German side it was chosen as the best pickup for 3 consecutive years, i.e. 2008, 2009, and 2010. It's just a shame we never got that previous model with a VGT here in Pinas....

Now, if you pit the new D-max against the Ranger 3.2 TDCi, it's a different story.... i should say the Ranger 3.2 TDCi is better in everything than the new D-max 3.0 iTEQ VGS Turbo that we're getting, except in fuel efficiency, you can bet sir ;)

    Cheers!

Ang galing ng makina ng D-max noh chief, whether you like it or ELSE hehe, maganda talaga makina ni Isuzu....

Just convert their litres per 100 km to our convention of km per litre at i-average mo lang ang on-road at off-road 4x4 fuel consumptions nila ;)

    Cheers!
