April 16th, 2008 12:00 PM #1115Just wanted to find out if any of the Tucson owners here have a similar experience -
I bought my Tucson around October last year but finally started to use it only around December because of the delay in getting the license plates. Last week as I was inspecting it to prepare for its 5K service, I flipped down the driver's visor and opened the mirror cover. In doing that, a piece of the left corner of the cover (near the hinge) came loose. (The car isn't here now - I will try to post some photos later.)
So I informed the dealer about the damage and the possibility of having the cover replaced. Today I got the feedback saying that they have to file a report to upper management to ensure that it is not from mis-use or abuse.
I have very rarely used the visor until recently when I started using a collapsible windshield cover during the hot days. I flip down the visors to hold the cover in place. Neither have I ever used excessive force to flip down the visor. It is quite clear that no force is necessary in using the visor anyways.
From my what I saw, the piece almost likely chipped off because it became brittle due to the heat. If so, it would mean Hyundai used inferior materials or simply practiced poor workmanship. So I would like to know if others have experienced the same thing or mine's an isolated case. Thanks.

April 16th, 2008 11:53 PM #1116Hi folks! Long time lurker here. I just got my Tucson CRDI a few month ago and last time I registered 9km/l. Good mileage from a relatively stiff engine could probably be due to my working hours since I'm on night shift.
Sir Architect, I will check the visor on my vehicle to see if this also the case.
Anybody can share what their driving habits are in terms of pressing the gas pedal to achieve maximum fuel economy? I tried 2 methods both involve gradual pressing of the gas pedal just to eliminate that variable.
The first method involves not letting the RPM go beyond 2k and the second method is pressing until it shifts gear. Funny thing is gas consumption is minimal.
Can anyone tell me what am I doing wrong or the most fuel efficient way of driving a diesel engine?
Salamat ng marami!

April 17th, 2008 07:20 AM #1117Sir Architect I encountered the same issue with my CRDi Tucson that i got last February 2008. The chip came from the hinge of the vanity mirror. I had my dealership file warranty claim since this is consider as a factory defect. I will get the replacement by the end of April. Hope this helps!!!
For my fellow Tucson owner what type of onboard video would you suggest? I want to install an onboard entertainment on my ride and I can’t decide whether I should get a 2 din HU or an in-dash type HU. Help please….

April 17th, 2008 07:42 AM #1118*sphinx1228, Cool Breeze,
Thanks for your replies. It is comforting to know that Hyundai will replace it. Cool Breeze, knowing you had the same problem definitely helps as I can refer Hyundai to this forum to let them know mine is not an isolated case.
Thanks again. BR.
