September 19th, 2008 02:13 AM #391Sir DD, for a shop to charge 8000 pesos for valve re-lapping, seating and clearance only. is it a fair price?
I'm not familiar with pricing of machine shops as this is not my line. However, I believe that price will depend on the type of cylinder head, number of cylinders, and the scope of work involved. Here is a sample of a thorough cylinder head repair:- Chemical cleaning of cylinder head assy.
- Cylinder head crack test, discard or repair if possible
- Check cylinder head for warpage, resurface if warpage is within limits, discard if beyond limits
- Replace valve guides
- Replace valve seats and grind
- Replace or grind old valves if possible
- Lap and fit valves and valve seats
- Replace or machine tappet shims to attain required camshaft to tappet clearance

sir diesel dude thank you very much,
Do you install aftermarket water separators at CDC? I have a crdi 4m41 engine that I would like to last me a very long time, since you mentioned that water is the main killer of crdi. and I know how expensive its injectors are,
Do crdi engines need to be calibrated? what needs to be replaced? and are their nozzle tips similar to old school diesel?

September 19th, 2008 04:13 PM #394sir diesel dude thank you very much,
Do you install aftermarket water separators at CDC? Not at the moment. This may be a good market to get into though.
I have a crdi 4m41 engine that I would like to last me a very long time, since you mentioned that water is the main killer of crdi. and I know how expensive its injectors are, Considering that your vehicle is quite new, I don't suggest that you install an aftermarket water separator now because this could affect your vehicle's warranty.
Do crdi engines need to be calibrated? The engine is not calibrated; it is the high pressure pump and injectors that are calibrated.
what needs to be replaced? I don't know as we have not yet worked on the 4M41's common rail fuel system.
and are their nozzle tips similar to old school diesel? Common rail nozzles look almost the same as the old style. However, repair procedure is entirely different, and requires new and expensive equipment.

You're welcome. I don't know who carries these water separators. The original Mits separator and filter should be sufficient. What's important is that the water sensor circuit is ok as this will indicate if water is detected in your fuel. You will then have to drain the water. Draining procedure should be in the owner's manual.

Sir DD,
what do you think about Injector Pipe Clamps hook on the engine? are they there for tidy reasons? or they are also there to support negative earth ground for the heating of the glow plug systems?

September 25th, 2008 07:44 PM #398Sir DD,
what do you think about Injector Pipe Clamps hook on the engine? are they there for tidy reasons? Clamps are there to prevent high pressure pipe breakage due to pulsation and vibration.
or they are also there to support negative earth ground for the heating of the glow plug systems? This will not provide adequate ground as the clamps are insulated by rubber pads.

Sir DD,
Can the product Prestone Fuel Injector Cleaner be applied to a diesel vehicle (mine is a Starex '99 A/T TDIC), or pang-petrol gasoline lang?
For maintenance purposes, would you recommend using cleaners on your fuel system ?
How would you know if the injector nozzles need cleaning na? What are the symptoms?
Thanks
