October 21st, 2011 12:14 AM #1471Sir, hingi lang po ako ng advise. This is regarding our toyota innova 2008 d4d a/t. May smoke belching problem po siya. I brought it to the dealership twice na. The first time, they cleaned the egr, exhaust and intake manifolds, and exhaust pipes. I had to pay 3,000. SA told me not covered by warranty because it is part of maintenance After a month or so, the problem recurred. I brought it back last July before warranty ended. They changed the egr and the injector o-ring no charge. Now, the problem is recurring though not that severe. Am now hesistant to bring it back to casa because of the long wait of 2 weeks per service and fruitless diagnosis and solution. Sir, what may be the problem and solution to my vehicle? How much would be for diagnosis for this? Thank you.

There is one thing i forgot to mention. There is always a thick residue of black soot in the exhaust. When i try to remove it, its flakey. After a few drives after cleaning, returns to thick soot. Thanks sir dieseldude for the advise.

October 25th, 2011 09:13 AM #1480I will PM you.
This is how repairs are often done:
1) Do a scan and perform repair on any detected fault/s. Fyi, Scan tools can only detect electronically related faults. Most mechanical problems cannot be seen by a scan tool.
2) If no fault/s are detected, it is very possible that the problem is mechanical in nature. This is the more difficult part as the mechanic has no fault code to guide him. He will have to check all possibilities. This takes a lot of time and effort.
The hard part is locating the problem. Once the faulty part is identified, it is now just a matter of doing the corrective action. Your problem could more difficult to diagnose/repair as Toyota has twice worked on your car with no success.
