July 4th, 2007 11:11 AM #933hi guys...would appreciate any feedback on the lpg conversion...am thinking of converting my camry to lpg...i heard that the actual consumption goes higher ...ie if i used to get 6/ltr...they say it will go down to around 4/ltr...so the cost savings will be off -set...

The fuel consumption will increase. So if your original fuel millage is 8km/L, with LPG you would get around 7 or 7.5km/L assuming the same vehicle and same driver.
And the LPG kits you get for your car can make different results in fuel millage. The carb type kits that are commonly used with taxi cabs are sensitive to condition of the air filter and even atmospheric pressure. You can also adjust the kit's fuel rate so it can give your engine it's optimum fuel economy.
The more advanced (and more expensive) SGI kits (sequential gas injection) can equal or exceed the fuel economy you get when using gasoline. This kit seems to be recommended for newer cars especially for engines with plastic air intakes.
example:
Carb type LPG for EFI: P27K
SGI type LPG: P52K

July 5th, 2007 09:06 AM #935wow...52k cash out seems abit heavy...assuming i get to save 1k a week...that means i'll breakeven after a yr...is this worth it?
anyway, thanks for the info...will think about it first...btw...the SGI is that the italian made already or it that the korean made....whats the diff between the italian brand and the korean brand? based on my canvas...the italian brand is double the price of the korean brand....

If you do break-even in a year, it is worth the price of the SGI kit.

I just wanted to post... I drove my Corolla to Baguio and back over the weekend. I had both my LPG and gasoline fuel tanks filled. When I got back to Manila, my odometer was reading over 650 kilometers. I did over 400km on LPG (started with 83% tank capacity) and the rest on gasoline (gasoline gauge was reading a touch over half remaining). The LPG tank wasn't dry-empty but the meter was reading zero for over 15 minutes before I switched over to gasoline.
While in Baguio, I was running on gasoline because the thinner air resulted in one very under powered Corolla which was able to so slowly around but it was inefficient on the fuel used.
The portion of the trip to baguio was mainly done in rain but I was still able to maintain a speed of between 100 to 125 kph along the expressway. If I maintained a lower speed (like 90kph) all the way, I might have achieved better fuel millage but I was trying to cut the travel time. Manila to Baguio in five hours. Baguio to Manila in four hours.Last edited by ghosthunter; July 18th, 2007 at 05:28 PM.
