CVT for me best of both worlds talaga. sana mawawala na mga AT na gears. CVT na dapat ilagay lahat sa mga AT cars. CVT is not AT, for me, siguro mas tama if sasabihing CVT is parang AT. wala kasing gears ang CVT compared to standard AT so yun. for me lang ha

Automatic transmissions shift smoothly and early when you lightly step on the accelerator. When you step harder, the transmission "cable" tells the transmission to shift later due to more fuel input, which means higher RPM, and later shifting. This later shifting is also felt more.
So if you want to feel how many gears or what gear you're in, from a standing start step on it hard and count the number of times it shifts. Note that if you have, say, a four-speed automatic, and it starts in first gear (some transmissions start in second to save on fuel), then you should feel three shifts. If it's a three-speed automatic, you'll feel two shifts. This pattern should be consistent.
If you're cruising at a constant speed and you're barely stepping on the pedal, then you're in top gear. If you floor it, it will downshift and give maximum acceleration.
On CVT transmissions, I think it's possible to downshift multiple times depending on throttle input - and that makes it fun! However I don't like the way it feels "synthetic" or maybe it's just me. Other than that, CVT is good enough for me.
Automatics are great with cruise control and driving long distances. CVT, for me, is great in the city and gives the car a zippy character.

January 7th, 2008 11:18 PM #96Its confusing sometimes when you have cars na m/t and a/t. Sometimes, i start the m/t only pressing the brake, or sometimes without pressing anything, and it's in first gear. And sometimes in the a/t i think of the pedal parking brake as a clutch coz its located to the right of the brake, so yun habang tumatakbo, biglang tapak sa parking brake.

Actually, this is true. And this is a cause of a number of accidents. Especially, pag may nakabuntot sa yo. Blag!!! sapol ang rear mo. In this case, kasalanan pa rin ng driver na nasa likod, imo.
It really takes time to get used to mix driving if you have both manual and automatic tranny as your ride. But eventually, masasanay ka rin. Just up your level of awareness to the kind of tranny that you are driving at a particular moment. And I'm talking from experience.

January 8th, 2008 11:27 PM #99My first car is an A/T. I could drive M/T pero nanibago ako when i drove my car as in naghahanap ang paa ko ng clutch
pero i think A/T is much better all around less hassle sa pag change ng gears and everything, yung bang relax paa mo if its a long drive pero ngawit naman pag sobrang tagal, i once had pins and needles on my right foot, dahil naka tapak sa accelarator for so long
anyway i would say A/T nalang i mean it does what M/T meant to do pero minus clutching lang.
