That's a Gen 10 Altis doc, I remember that post
I have an 11th gen and unfortunately nagsisimula na to melt
I joined altis club and it seems like the melting dashboard started with the 10th gen. My 2010 altis only has around 50k on the odometer and its parking is covered. Rarely parked outside except pag pinapaarawan ko to disinfect hehe. The dash still melted, cracked and peeled.
What shocked me a 2014 same din. I've seen a few posts na sa Altis club na 11th gen with melted dash

No idea. Maybe there's a "defective" batch of dashboard, malas na lang those who got it. Because my car did not have conditons na susceptible to melting (covered parking and rarely used pa) Ang pinakamalas, I saw some posts na even the door sidings are melting

May 19th, 2023 03:23 AM #34i have a theory.
it seems to me, that at one time, manufacturers were "using" a new compound that they had no idea about its longevity.
and this does not seem exclusive to dashboards.
i have a nikon camera whose body was covered by a plastic-rubber compound, that after a few years, began getting sticky to the touch.
the camera was kept inside its bag, away from heat and light and other ionizing radiation...
when word got around, they probably stopped using the product. we do not seem to see this sticky compound in newer products nowadays.

I can't envision those "melting dashboards". As in they kind of drip and melt talaga under direct sunlight?
Anyhow, to be safe, the thread starter has just got to avoid buying those 10th gen and 11th gen altises then. Iwas possible source sakit Ng ulo.
Dami Naman choices sa eksena ngayon. It's a buyers market nowadays ika nga.

Yes it's sticky like melted rubber talaga then it cracks. In my case nag peel na yung "rubber" 😭 There's even a white thing now na hindi naman mold. Some dash ang sama ng cracks. It's also the same issue with Camry.
The melting is getting worse e nakaparada lang sa garage and no sunlight talaga kasi sa looban ng garage naka park
Okay naman kasi aesthetic lang na sakit ng ulo hehe

May 19th, 2023 09:25 AM #37Interesting, yung kapitbahay namin with an 11th gen has no problems yet. I thought naayos na siya with that generation kasi parang plasticky na yung dash? We both have open parking slots so exposed sa sun yung vehicles namin.
Last time I was in Guam, 11th gen Corolla yung na-rent ko and their parking is in the open too. Mas hotter pa ata Guam compared sa atin(?) but that dash had no issues.
Aside from that potential issue, as Dr. D said Corollas are just boringly reliable which I really like.

I was shocked too when I saw several posts at Altis Club on 11th gens with sticky dash. I grabbed some
Another post, sayang didn't show the before
My 11th gen has signs of melting na rin, low mileage and covered parking too. Even since I bought it covered parking at home and work. I think one of the members here has an 11th gen na melting na rin.
Anyway, I would still recommend a 10th gen Altis. Never had any repairs done on mine, which is very impressive for a 13 yr old car. Yung 11th gen ko napaltan na ng ignition coil e low mileage din. Between then 10th and 11th, I think mas problem free and 10th, maliit nga lang cabin.
