you can do it by hand but you will not get the same level of gloss like a machine polished surface. at the end of the day, mapapagod ka na at tatamarin and you will want more, kaya later on mapapabili ka din ng polisher. and if you are really that serious or want to become an enthusiast/DIY/weekend detailer then better invest in one

I have not detailed my cars for 6 months or so, maintain lang ng wash and wax so far makikintab pa naman sila. but the swirls and scratches are there, I just ignore them na lang muna

This will always depend on your needs, if you are the type of person that wants things to be done by yourself, even if it will cost you more. Or you have a lot of cars to maintain that you will need a machine to help you maintain them. Or you plan to detail your friends cars in the future and charge them, getting a machine will be your best friend.

But if you just want to save detailing cost, getting a machine will not be your solution.

If you are dedicated for this project and you want to do it by hand, it is doable but plan ahead. Like for the 1st week end, you will just do the hood and trunk, next week end left doors only, so on and so forth, until you finish the car, but keep in mind, like what sir monty sir, you can only do ao much with your hand, so dont expect machine results from your hand, but definitely you will get good results.
