March 7th, 2008 01:31 PM #91I have the same problem with my R2 engine:
1. nagtatapon agad ng coolant kahit malamig pa ang makina lalo na pag tinaas mo rpm and if you will look carefully by using strong light nagba-bubble sa reservoir tank.
2. After driving for some time, yung water sa radiator kulang pero yung sa reservoir ok naman or if the engine is still hot puno pa nga.
3. Resulta overheating after driving for some time due to coolant loss.
4. Note, malakas po hatak ng makina, kaya up to 120-130 kph, wala abnormal na itim o puting usok, wala ring latak engine oil, at malinis ang loob at labas ng engine.
5. Per actual inspection the root problem is: BLOWN HEAD GASKET which the mechanic said ay result din ng overheating na napabayaan from other defect in the cooling sytem. Di po ako ang first owner.
7. Other notes: Sabi po mekaniko ko, with respect to R2 engine, usually there is virtually no other problems the owners are presenting except for overheating and coolant loss. According to Larry Carley the leak may only be operating when the engine is running, opening at about 50 PSI but otherwise is practically closed when the engine is not running so no noticeable decrease in power nor coolant loss in the engine oil, the crack or the defect maybe so minute, you can not see it with your naked eyes. But a testing for combustion products sa coolant can be done.
I asked my mechanic if he is going to use sealant other than the replacement gasket, he said per experience it is better to use xtra sealant, again bahala na sya. Di po yung ordinary hi-temp sealant yung gagamitin, pero Im not sure also kung ano.
He will also retorque the engine after 2 wks, probably sa bahay na, kasi kelangan daw cold yung makina.
Initial Bill:
Labor- 1,500 petot
Gasket- 500 petot
Head resurface- 1500 petot (if needed only) but sabi sa iba 800 petot daw
palit langis- ??? yung mura lang muna seguro prob. Rev-X or Monograde.
palit coolant-??? ganun din mura lang muna.

mukhang mahusay yung mekaniko mo
and he did a very good Diagnostic on your Over Heating problem.
also:
-he's right on using a Composite type Head Gasket, compared to a Metal Head Gasket. specially if the Cylinder Head is the only part that is getting re-surfaced. because in order for a Metal Head Gasket to completely SEAL is that you have to re-surface the Deck of the Engine Block as well. which in turn, is more work.. para ka na din nag overhaul ng makina. so he's right on the money on using a Composite type Head Gasket.
-also, he might use Copper Spray on the Head Gasket (not a high-temp Silicone) for extra sealing. Copper Spray works really good IMHO.
-he's right on Re-Torquing the Head Bolts after the engine has a few miles after having a Cylinder Head R&R. and he's right on re-torquing it only when it is cold. also performing another Oil & Filter change is one of the best ways to do a Head Job right.
anywayz, I would do the same exact thing.. except for of course, I charge alot more than he does! lolz! ($1,000 for parts & labor, for a Cylinder Head R&R * w/ Head re-surfacing *.. then add $500 more if you want a complete Valve job & adjustment) here in the US of course
aite, peace.Last edited by KBR; March 8th, 2008 at 02:14 PM.

March 17th, 2008 01:09 PM #95*lowrider03,
definitely meron leak cooling system mo, di lang natin segurado kung saan. yung leak sa cylinder head, kahit lamig pa engine labas agad ng coolant sa radiator lalo na pag wala na thermostat, specially when you race the engine, tapos my bubbling talaga sa reservoir. Dahil daw ito sa compression pressure or gas that leaks into the cooling system.
Pag me thermostat pa, syempre kelangan pa warm-up, to open it bago lusot coolant sa radiator.

That is one reason to use a proper coolant. The dye in the coolant aids in failure
anaysis.( Residue of dried green coolant)
Just re do the same procedure, make sure the parts are cleaned well.
Check the threads of the bolts, I suggest you change the bolts as it may be the cause.
The bolts should be able to press fit that part, so make sure you do that procedure
properly. And Find that proper gasket. If you cant find that gasket then talk to a
machinist for a custom part.Last edited by mark_t; December 14th, 2008 at 03:55 PM.

Might change the rad cap soon. meron ba sa inyo may marerecommend na shop sa banawe that can troubleshoot this issue. like check the clamps, hoses etc? I've heard Otep recommeded jorge radiator shop near banawe.
