October 6th, 2007 07:04 PM #28I just replaced the spark plugs of my 2002 Nissan Cefiro after more than 5 years and 52,000 Kms. The OEM spark plugs installed are NGK PFR5G-11 (Platinum). The replacement plugs I bought were NGK PFR6G-11 setting me back PHP 450.00 a piece or PHP 2,700 total! The only reason I replaced them was because I felt the engine misfire once or twice during idling this past week. Sinabay ko na ang fuel filter. The mechanic told me that the fuel filter was dirty (5 years old na kasi!). Maybe it was the dirty fuel filter which caused the engine to misfire. Had I replaced the fuel filter first, maybe I would still be using the original spark plugs. Platinum and Iridium spark plugs last a lot longer than regular plugs, but are more expensive. I do not change plugs every time I get an oil change and I don't think you have to especially with cars that are fuel injected and have full electronic ignition. My other ride is a Grandis and it uses Iridium spark plugs. Hopefully the Iridium plugs last longer than the Platinum ones. Platinum/Iridium plugs are supposed to last from 80,000 to 100,000 Kms. You can visit the site, www.ngk.com for more info.
