^ Sell it. You wouldn't want your money to be burned again just because of it's costly repairs. Bare with it's low resale value, at least when you sell it ... you wouldn't have to think on how much will be the next repair be costing you, again.

Actually that's what I'm inclined to do. One of the reasons I'm glad there's a 2010 MIAS. I'd like to find out if I can trade in the S40, bite the bullet over what I anticiapate to be a low appraisal cost, and drive away with something less stressful. This thread gives me an idea: to create a poll on whether people find Volvos any good or not. Am curious about the ratio of unhappy vs. happy owners.

Marami-rami na akong pinagawa, outside of the usual PMS. With recommended PMS of every 15k km, ayos na sana coz that would have meant less visits to the casa. But the other repairs have kept me coming back.
Siguro over P80K na ang nagastos ko sa repairs, and the car has run for only 35,200 km! Sayang because it runs pretty well, it's fast (once hit 215 kph on SCTEX), and a still a head turner and conversation piece... where friends shake their heads when they learn of the repairs. I'll check my service records and list down what fixes have been done. Baka lalo akong madismaya, matapos ungkatin ang nakaraan.
*renzo_d10: To check on used car prices, I tried going thru the classified ads but haven't seen any current generation S40s being advertised. I once saw an '06 V50 * P800K in a used car lot. Since the V50 is the S40's wagon version and priced higher at the showroom, I was thinking that my S40 should be in the P700K range. Fingers crossed, of course.

January 19th, 2011 02:26 PM #66following up on this thread..
were you able to sell your car? ..and at what price?
my wife is eyeing an xc90 but i am trying to dissuade her (because of the costly maintenance). we have a range rover in the garage and i think that 2 european vehicles is just too much to maintain (the rover is constantly burning a hole in my pocket), not to mention the ever rising fuel costs.

Hi everyone, My uncle imports parts for Volvo (way, way cheaper even cheaper than japanese parts sometimes! for real!), several items available especially for older models (850,S40,V40,S60,S70 etc.) just let me know the parts you need and we'll see if we can provide them.
Thanks and happy motoring.
