yeah. they offered under-spec'd, old model cars na made in china thinking na nameplate + lower price will do the trick. if they want to sell chinese-made cars, it should be over-spec'd and very competitively priced.

The Jetta, Golf, Golf GTS and current gen Tiguan will probably sell better even if they are made in China.

The models sold here look so dated, even for a VW.

I think they'd misunderstood the market if they think the lavida is a direct replacement to the Jetta given that they marketed the TDI jetta more than the petrol variants and its not like the lavida is much cheaper at 1.171M when the entry level jetta was 1.2M in Jan 2018.What's frustrating is that they could have brought the sagitar over as the jetta and no one will be the wiser if they really wanted to source the same quality car.

    i wonder,
"who's the wise guy who made all these decisions on what models to bring in?"
because if the pros and cons are as plain as daylight as what some folks say naman...

it's in the same token as why mitsu did not put a diesel engine in its fusion...

Exactly, sometimes you wonder if they're in the right industry or profession.

Car buyers ain't dumb. They do enough research, especially buyers of bnew ones. They will spot a fair vs. an undervalued deal. Social media and the internet will also make sure the shortcomings will be exposed under the sun.

People wanted the Jetta and the Golf because they are the ones in Europe and North America. Most wouldn’t buy a Euro brand if they are going to get a Chinese market model.

The Jetta was offered in 3 engine options locally (1.4L TSI, 1.6L TDI, 2.0L TDL) and they sold well. They even have the 1.6L TDI offered with a 6MT tranny. Even much better when discounts were offered on all models. All models were based on the global models. Even the more premium 2.0L TDI model priced at 1.5M still had buyers.

We are happy with our Jetta 1.6L TDI and so with Vinj with his Golf GTS 2.0L TDI. The fit and finish is better than an Altis or Civic. I wouldn’t have hesitated buying the Golf 1.4L TSI as it was a really nice car to drive.

It's not as bad as someone in Toyota Global that vetoed the fortuner in favor of the 2.7 Innova(for emissions) to be sold as the replacement of the zace surf in taiwan or Toyota S.A also the gen 1 innova with only the 2.7 atleast the fusion was not designed with a diesel engine in mind and the engineering required may no longer be worth it for our small market(if i remember/read correctly it was mitsubishi Ph that adapted a diesel engine to the adventure's design).

Yung polo lang siguro yun may chance na ganon since ayala's partnered up with saic/vw-saic unless na mag step in si VW china/VW Global
