Dubai doesn't depend on oil, its oil revenues are less than a fifth of its economy.
It's the "Singapore" of the Middle East, only million times richer.

Dubai to Build World’s Largest Arch Bridge
Dubai is set to spend $817-million on building the world’s largest arch bride, at 617-feet tall and 1-mile in length. Expect it to be in service by 2012.
Dubai is the Tetsuo of cities, expanding so fast it’s on the verge of creating of its own universe. And architecture that looks like it’s from the 22nd century only adds to the sheer grandeur of its growth—this bridge, envisioned by NY architecture firm Fxfowle, will be the largest and tallest arch bridge in the world, at one mile long and 670 feet tall.
Construction starts next month and is due to wrap up in 2012 after running some $817 million dollars. World’s first vacuum tube mass transit system will launch in Dubai shortly thereafter.

March 29th, 2008 04:58 AM #18i think that they are preparing for the next polar shift or change in world climate sa tingin ko. as we all know puro american companies naman talaga halos mayari dyan sa middle east. The Americans and the rich sultans practically own the middle east.
it's like this kasi, AFrica today is a no man's land a god forsaken land. kahit ano gawin nila sa crops nila, the land is just cursed that's why endless famine. while Africa is suffering, its counterpart continent is flourishing - America.
i think in the next 100 years or maybe less, America will die. kitang-kita na naman eh 100 degrees temperature na sa iba't ibang states. nagkakaron na talaga ng abrupt climate change.
the next venue for the superpower is middle east. africa as an agricultural nation and nearby middle east as its financial capital. i read this somewhere eh.
for those of you who still think that America is land of milk and honey. think again ..
kaya hindi nakakapagtaka na very futurustic ang look ng dubai. para talaga pang-sci movie. China is also trying to imitate Dubai. look at Shanghai skyscrapers halos kamukha ng Dubai bldgs. kaya lang self-denial na lang yun kasi, lulubog ang shanghai after the next climate change. China seems to believe in Al gore's theory pa din na ma-save tayo if we control our consumption. but the true Americans are not risking it, kaya hayun andun ang pera ng mga Amerkano napupunta lahat sa middle east. Dubai is just a start

Hindi lang 40 deg C ang temperature mga sirs..50 deg C at 80% humidity most of the time during summer. Minsan pumalo ng 52 pero 50 lang sa record baka matakot tao..
But you will still love this place specially if you are sports car lovers. I often travel from Sohar Oman to Dubai every week end and loved watching Ferrari racing on highway. We open windows so we can hear the sound.....its music to your ear!
