Lucky Plaza shop charges tourist $10,103 for two iPhone 5 handsets
STOMPer L says his friend, who was on holiday here, was charged $10,103 when he purchased two iPhone 5 handsets at a shop in Lucky Plaza.
Said the STOMPer:
"Last Friday (Nov 16), a foreign friend of mine shopped at a phone shop at Lucky Plaza. He bought 2 iphone 5s (32 G) at the shop known as EOne Mobil Plus Pte Ltd at Orchard Road, Lucky Plaza, unit B1-48.
"My friend was told it cost S$1,150 per phone and he agreed and paid them cash S$2,550 including GST for 2 iphone 5s. After that they asked him for his passport to register his iPhone with the Apple Store.
"When they returned his passport and handed him a receipt to sign and he did, after that the shop people demanded him to pay the balance of S$7,500 for his purchase of two iPhones. My foreign friend was shocked to learn he had to pay so much money before they could release the phone to him.
"My friend called me after he spent much time asking for the return of his money but in vain. Finally he had to call for help, and I went down to Lucky Plaza to see what I could do for him.
"I was deeply upset when the shop people told me that my friend agreed to pay S$10,103 for the phones, and he had signed on the receipt.
"I called the police on the spot and the police came, but not much that the police could do for us. Because what the police claimed was that this is a willing-seller-willing-buyer case, hence they could not intervene.
"I was very upset then, and finally my foreign friend had to gave in because he had to catch a flight to return to his country the same evening. Finally, he paid S$4,280 for two iPhone 5s (inclusive of GST).
"I still have the receipt showing the S$10,103 that my friend was initially charged for 2 iPhone 5s. I hope there will be not be another victim of the similar case in the future."
STOMP understands that an iPhone 5 32GB handset retails for about $1,088 in Singapore.

November 21st, 2012 10:16 PM #332Lucky Plaza and SimLim Stores are notorious for scammers especially hand phones and electronic items .
Usually tourist ang dinadale ng mga yan , kadalasan Pagbili mo dyan kulang yun accessories
Few years back kasi my friend bought a PS2 ,he was alone , then he was quoted like S$100 cheaper than SRP , so sabi Nya mura ah, kinagat Nya offer so he paid na, when checking the unit , it lacks , the power supply , the controller , the AV cables then the guy said you have to purchase it separately so they offer it to him , low price daw , to make the story short , he bought this lacking accessories and the total was it amounted to almost S$100 pa na mas mahal kesa sa orig SRP in the malls .
Kawawa ka dyan Lalo na pag alone ka or tatanga tanga ka Dahl sila pa galit pag ang demand ka ng return.also as a rule NEVER gave your ATM or credit card to them if you are still not confirmed dun sa mga nabili mo are correct , kadalasan kasi palusot ng mga yan " Brother, amount already swiped the bill on NETS already , can not cancel lah"
You are better off buying in more reputable shops like Best, Harvey Norman the likes.
Although Singapore is a very clean country and haven for shopaholics especially for geeks and gadget crazy , they have also their share of scammers .Last edited by threx666; November 21st, 2012 at 10:22 PM.

If you want to buy electronic gadgets go to Funan Digital Mall, ok naman doon, Don't ever buy to Simlim at lalo na sa Lucky Plaza, Scammer ang lahat nang tindahan nang electronic gadgets diyaan, at always huwag kayong pipirma diyaan sa mga receipt nila ang na nakalagay ay Recieved in good order. Which is a misleading and trapped from the buyer's side. FYI may electronic expo dito ngayon.

Sa SimLim diskarte at swertihan lang talaga. May mga maayos naman pero kokonti lang. Nakabili ako dun ng Acer Aspire One laptop for S$400 lang. Originally S$450 sya. Pinoy nakausap namin, may libre pang X-Mini speaker.

My girlfriend managed to bag herself a 1TB WD My Passport external hard disk for S$95 during the expo. When I bought mine last August at Courts in Funan, I thought I got a great deal at S$145 after a lot of cross-shopping.
So YES, the expo makes a lot of difference in terms of pricing...it really depends on what you're buying. I heard there were price cuts on SSDs, too...I wish I could've been there to take advantage!
