March 17th, 2016 07:58 PM #12Still seems unfair to register them in the past and then refuse to do so now. They could just as easily wait for the old released units to die a natural death and refuse to register newly brought in surplus units. Most of them are really old anyway.
If they were to follow this to the letter, there would be a huge spike in truck sales. Surplus units account for the majority of all heavy duty and light duty trucks in service.

March 17th, 2016 09:44 PM #13i remember when... someone challenged the EO in the supreme court. the buyers that were then emboldened and went on to buy the questioned vehicles, were warned beforehand, that should the court rule in favor of the EO, it would be a retroactive ban going all the way back to 2006. caveat emptor, so to speak. but they continued to buy...
so now, they can't really complain.
diplomatic corps, trucks and buses of defined GVW, and specialty vehicles are not included in the ban. so no... i do not see a spike in locally manufactured truck sales. errr... do we have a real local heavy truck manufacturing factory or assembly plant?
pick ups are included in the ban.
what i see, is a huge spike in the sale of small, fuel-efficient cars.
car aficionado-wise... i do see a number of "B"-plated porsches... sayang...Last edited by dr. d; March 17th, 2016 at 11:06 PM.

March 17th, 2016 11:52 PM #14That's good to know.
Haven't read the EO so I assumed all surplus units. I think most of the truck cab-chassis are imported from Thailand, its just the FB and some aluminum bodies made here.
I still feel sorry for people who'll be affected by this. A big question would be what to do with these units. Use them as freeport taxis? Farm use?
The more expensive ones like Porsches I guess they could ship to somewhere to recover some of the cost.

March 20th, 2016 10:33 AM #15Masters,
It is indeed a burden to the owners who purchased such vehicles. Though it has been 6 years already from the time I let go of my Subic SUV, which by the way I still miss 'em, I am glad and very happy that I was spared from the difficulties of those owners who have been affected. Honestly, I pity them. I hope the government considers extending assistance to those Subic car owners who legally purchased them.

March 20th, 2016 10:47 AM #16i hope not.
the government has been bending backward so much for so long, many people already feel it has no backbone.
the supreme court already said it's a valid law. so let's implement it.
i hope this is the start of a real, honest-to-goodness implementation of other current laws.
perhaps these owners can claim they were hoodwinked by the importers who sold them the vehicles... "for selling them goods that were illegally imported and for not fully informing them of such and such possibilities". then let's see what happens.

March 20th, 2016 10:55 AM #17Good point dr.d. I hope their next and immediate move would be those deteriorating jeepneys and buses.

March 20th, 2016 03:29 PM #20This is what i hope they really do.[/QUOTE]
Yeah, I forgot (sorry OT), add to the list the tricycles flying along EDSA and National Highways.
Since this Subic Vehicle case has been backed-up by car companies, I hope they do the same to the Jeepney, Bus and Tricycles. Quite impossible? I guess yes as it doesn't affect them directly. It just came to my thought that sometimes the government needs a red tape, este push from private companies in order for them to move or do their job.
