Ok, here's the story on the skyway race... Stupid behavior that I hope not to do again...
I just came in through the southbound E-Pass toll booth at the SkyWay, when this white and silver Alterra suddenly appears at my right, also coming from the toll booth. The driver obviously slowed down to check-out my ride. Within a few seconds, he just accelerated, as if trying to make me eat his dust. My stupid ego couldn't take his behavior, so I gave chase.
Thanks to the higher torque of the Fortuner I overtook him a few seconds into the chase at an uphill portion coming from the toll booth. I could see him trying to give chase, but, to no avail... I reached 140kph, 2Kms away from the Bicutan exit. Had to decelerate as I neared the off-ramp. I just hope that Alterra driver was no tsikoteer...
Got off the shot below as I was 1Km away from the Bicutan SkyWay off-ramp. It's kinda fuzzy, but, you can make out my deceleration to 130kph.

Saw a Silver Fortuner parked inside pioneer badminton last night, with a big 3.0 D4D at the side. Damn tires are huge.

Owners of the D4D units, i'd like some feedbacks on:
engine noise. Does the engine make a noisy taka taka taka taka taka sound at idle? how about during accelaration?
Performance-wise. Never owned a diesel vehicle before so have to really on other people's opinion on this. They say that diesel vehicles generally are unresponsive in acclerating. How about the D4D engine? Is it responsive?
Bottomline. Is it worth shelling the 300K for the D4D? Lets say one plans to use the Fortuner mostly and mainly for city driving, with some out-of-town (Tagaytay or destinations with similar road conditions) use maybe once or twice a year. Which is better to get? Btw, I'm really after engine performance in the short and long term use. 4WD system not important (although it comes with the D4D) since I won't have the heart to throw the vehicle into the mud or some potentially harmful environment.
