There's an Original Toyota Spare Tire Lock. I saw it at Toyota Thailand website.

So does that mean that it's very easy for the spare tire to be stolen?

Im still torn between 2.7 and 3.0. I personally want 3.0 because its 4x4 and if ever, its my FIRST TIME to have a 4x4 auto. Hehehe. But! my parents wants 2.7 because its gas. Huhuhu. Dilemma: my dad owns an 83 Toyota Tamaraw. The fiera type (dont know if you guys know this car) :-) . With it, he got a bad experience with diesel engine (I guess you guys know the history of diesel engines before) and dont want it to happen again so its a big no no for my parents to get a diesel. Boo Hoo... I explained that the diesel in the 80s is way different with the diesel nowadays. He said: "Still... diesel is a diesel and you will face same problem in the long run." Well I guess he has a point there. So... I guess we are going for the 2.7 gas one.

I am choosing between 3 colors namely: Dark Grey Metallic, Greyish Brown Metallic, and Silver Metallic.

Anyway, I hope that we can come up with the final decision soon.

    Again. Thanks to all! :-)
if you want to get the gas version, baka abutin ka ng 2007. my dealer told me they get around 2 units per month. 3.0 d4d more than 10 units per month. imagine, mas marami pa nga ang nari-release na 2.5 d4d (launched late sept) kesa sa 2.7 vvti which was launched nung month of may pa. kung number 50 ka sa pila for the gas unit, after 24 months mo pa makukuha unit mo. by that time may nagbebenta na ng second hand na fortuner. IMHO, get the diesel version. isama mo dad mo sa toyota at mag-test drive kayo ng d4d na innova para ma-appreciate niya yung crdi.

Toyota learned from it's shortcomings so after the 2C, toyota introduced the 2L (2.4 li.) found in the Revo. Now that's a tough reliable engine. My cousin with his old 2L hilux ran it dry twice already (once from a radiator leak*180T km of use, the other from a water pump leak after 200T km of use), and it ran even without water until the thermostat in the water pump shut down the ignition to prevent further damage to the engine (he had a busted temp guage and never had it fixed). No cracks, no warp, engine still intact after running dry & severe overheating.

Even though the new D4Ds were just introduced late last year and have no reliability records to speak of, I'm sure they are light years more advanced and made tougher than those oldies. Basically no point of comparison - it's like heaven and hell.
yup.. nung panahon ng FX, even the brand new tamarraw FX with the 2C got busted after 6 months, i got this from toyota mechanis hehe.. ang mga matibay daw na 2C is yung 2C-T (turbo) from japan..
basta once na mag-overheat ang 2C diesel.. magdasal ka na for overhaul hehe

the 2L diesel engine found on revo and hilux before are very reliable engine, 1998 na introduce ang revo and I have to hear a revo owner na nagpa-overhaul na ng diesel nya..

i think the new D4D is already in use in some countries mga 2003 pa, last year naging popular because of the IMVs .. i think mas though na ito dahil sa price gap pa lang ng 3.0 diesel fortuner and 2.7 gas eh ang laki hehe.. saan napunta yung price gap? engine and 4x4 setup..

Yes, the 2KD-FTV (D-4D) is turbo charged.
all D4D engines 1KD-FTV and 2KD-FTV are all turbo charged, toyota did not introduce a non-turbo version.. i haven't seen a non-turbo version

pero, there's two 2KD-FTV available, the one with intercooler na meron sa hilux ng thailand and the one without it.. ang meron sa pinas lang is yung turbo only na 2KD-FTV for innova and fortuner..

Yes, it is relatively easy to steal the bottom mounted spare tire of all Toyota IMVs. But, the technique can call a lot of attention and, thus, can be done only when nobody else is around. Kaya, I suggest you guys park in secure areas that always have people or roving guards around. Or, better yet, get a sparetire chain or lock.

Thanks for the comments. I totally understand it. The problem is that, me dad is stubborn and I cant do anything about it. I guess its because of expereince na din. Yung Tamaraw namin na 1983 ay napa over haul na for I think 3 to 4 times. Medyo madami nang bread na na-spend sa fiera na ito. In fact up to now, although rarely ginagamit, ay buhay pa din. Ito yung kotseng need to press on the GLOW button and count from 1 to 15 or 20 para mapainit ang starter compare to now na automatic na. How technology advanced.

I actually made a feasibility study (below) with estimated amounts sa gas:

Fortuner 3.0 Diesel Fortuner 2.7 Gasoline
    4x4 4x2 Difference
    Initial Cash Out 1,573,000 1,268,000 305,000
Est Consumption 7.0 kms per liter 5.5 kms per liter
    In every 100 km 14.3 liters/100kms 18.2 liters/100kms
Fuel Cost P443.3/100 kms P655.2/100 kms P211.9/100 kms
Assumptions: Diesel 31.00 per liter; Gas 36.00 per liter

Although, the study is not too complete because I lack data that must be included like the maintainance (part, 5000 check ups, etc.) amounts for Gas and Diesel. So I really can't come up with a final conclusion of which one really, in the long run, is more practical, affordable, and best buy. Dont know if anyone here can help me out on these remaining data.

Well. I hope I can still convince my parents, specially dad on this.

    Thanks!!

    God bless!!!

    Additional data for you, poringdrops.

Insurance : 3.0 Diesel insurance is more expensive by 7,000.00
Gas vs Diesel price difference is only P 2.70
Gas engine change oil is now every 10T km

Diesel engine oil change is also every 10T km, if you use fully synthetic oil. In fact, mas magiging matipid maintenance ng 3.0V over the 2.7G, if you prefer the use fully sythetic oils in your engine. Wala kasing sparkplugs to replace in the 3.0V.

*poringdrops: But, if you are comparing the price of the 2.7G against the 3.0V, talo tlaga ang 3.0V. Value for money, the best ang 2.7G variant ng Fortuner. From computations made in past threads, it will take over 10 years of use at 250km/wk para mag-equalize ang value ng 2.7G and 3.0V (that was when the price gap between diesel & gas was over P4). Kaya lang, mas konti ang 2.7G variants delivered in RP, kaya mas mahaba pila.

I also made a computation at 250km/week. at current price difference of P 2.70, 6.3km/liter gas & 8.6km/liter diesel. plus additional 7T insurance for 3.0, it would take me 21 years to offset the 300,000.00 pesos difference.

But if you want 4x4 then gofor the 3.0 diesel.
