August 23rd, 2024 05:41 PM #5521it is possible that the shock absorber manufacturer makes OEM items with one set of specifications, and another, off-the-counter item with another set of specifications, both for the exactsame car.
and depending on the agreement between car manufacturer and shocks manufacturer, the OEM items might be made available only thru the casa and its authorized outlets/dealers.
cow only.

I searched din a Altis Club and some comments are saying that KYB rides stiff (same as the discussion above)
What's important for me is the car won't get matagtag because I am extremely hilohin. I can sense agad if a car is matagtag, I get nauseous. That is also the reason why I chose an Altis over a Hilux because Tsikoteers said matagtag daw Hilux
But if the ride is the same lang, and price has a huge difference, KYB is the practical choice nga.
OR should I just replace the rear lang with Original since the front is still okay? (I am still mind blown why the rear gave out earlier than the front since nobody ever rides at the back naman or super rare talaga)
Yup, Dr Kamiya explained it well. Now I am curious of the price difference between OEM and KYB. I will wait for Casa's quote if they will recommend replacement sa front.

August 23rd, 2024 06:09 PM #5523when i replaced my innova's front shocks, i opted for the cheaper regular kyb. puti. i do not remember how the diameter of this white one, compares with the diameter of the OEM that they replaced.
the ride was rough, after that.
i am now wondering if the fatter, black, heavy-duty kyb, would have given a better ride?
dunno if this will apply to the altis.

If you wanna save a bit, KYB has a Lazada store, I bought shocks for a Subaru from there.

Thanks. What's the link? So many KYB Sellers kasi. I wanna compare the price vs OEM
Not sure if this is the official store pero laki ng difference. A PAIR OF KYB = 1 piece na OEM. They don't have rear though

Get 2nd opinion on your shocks if in doubt ... before you order ... if you get KYB and the ride is stiff ... put load on your trunk to soften ride ...

Yeah, the store was LazMall. Also consider you may need shock mounts but Im not sure how it is for this car.
I agree with Walter, get a second opinion. Check if theyre actually leaking and not just a bit soft.
What is the mileage of your Altis?

August 24th, 2024 09:32 AM #5530i also replaced the rears. i had not originally intended to when i drove into the shop, because unlike the front shocks which were already playing basketball (dribbling) at the road humps, the rears were not exactly catching my attention if i did not pay too much attention to them.
but as the rear was so cheap at that time (1000 each?)...
and up until i sold the car some years afterward, them shocks were still fine.
i had them done in banawe.
kayabas are fine with me. just as 555s for non-oem metal suspension parts, are.
heh heh.Last edited by dr. d; August 24th, 2024 at 10:04 AM.
