December 8th, 2012 12:49 AM #2621Yes. It has 2 punctures close to each other. No other defects in the gas tank and the rest of the fuel line. There was a fortuner G there with likewise the same problem. The bad thing is that parts are not available and the owner had to settle for a patch up job with epoxy for the meantime. The SA said that it would not be wise in the avanza's case as it runs on gas. Just have to trust the SA. Anyway, the said part would just cost me 640 pesos. Not covered by warranty as they said it seems to be cause by a rat bite. Really hard to say if its an inherent defect unless we see it reported by other owners. Or maybe just bad luck on my part. The car has no other problems. I've had it since march. Just opted to wait as the car is used to drive my children to school.

December 11th, 2012 09:42 PM #2623reminds me of the time i just bought a besta... my back-up light just kept dying. i changed several times my back-up light switch ( it screwed into the transmission housing)... finally, i brought it to the casa. the first thing the mechanic asked was, "may aso kayo, 'no?"..
i got a piece of sheet metal, drilled a hole at one end, bent it into an "L" shape, and screwed it in between the switch and the housing.. voila!

On pure city driving may not be that much of a difference.
I drive on mixed road conditions with my 2007 J, for the first three years I used regular mineral oil from Casa and I get 9-10 km/li, after 3 years I switch to fully synthetic I was surprised to see that my FC has improved to 10-12km/li.
This is my experience and im no expert.
I use petron XCS by the way.

December 14th, 2012 11:54 PM #2628My avanza has been finally fixed. I emailed the customer service of TMP telling them how I found it unacceptable for the top selling car company in the Philippines for the past decade not to have parts on stock. In fairness to them, they replied immediately the following day and they were very helpful

Why not build Avanzas with Diesel Engines?
There were news that Hyundai will be releasing their Accent CRDi VGT Hatcback first quarter 2013.
It's built with a 1.6 liter diesel engine. Can't Toyota build a smaller diesel engine too to fit their Avanzas
or even their sedans? I just think that Avanza would have been better equipped with a diesel engine...
