Yung ex-coast guard cutter Vietnam war veteran isn't exactly good as new. Built 1965 or 46 years old na siya. At carcinogenic yung gamit na insulation ng mga US Navy vessel...
While serving in this branch of the military prior to the 1980s, members of the Navy may have been exposed to asbestos. Beginning in the 1930s, the Navy mandated the use of asbestos aboard its vessels due to the material's superb fire-resistant qualities.
If you were exposed to asbestos while serving in the Navy, consider having annual health screenings to check for signs of an asbestos-related disease. Such health conditions can take up to 50 years to arise from the time of exposure.
Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (July 27, 2011) – U.S. Navy Sailors and sailors aboard the Philippine Navy's newest ship, BRP Gregorio del Pilar (PF-15), salute during morning colors as the ship arrives at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam during a scheduled port visit. The ship, a former U.S. Coast Guard cutter, is on its maiden voyage to the Republic of the Philippines to join the Philippine Navy Fleet. As a multi-mission surface combatant ship, Gregorio del Pilar becomes the first gas-turbine jet engine-powered vessel in the Philippine Navy fleet. Looks like USCGC Dallas is the next ship that the Philippines will be receiving for "free".
There are also rumors that the navy is considering eight (8) more units of this Hamilton class.
There are 12 ships in the Hamilton class.
A breakdown of the ships:
BRP Gregorio Del Pilar (ex. USCGC Hamilton 715)
BRP ??????? (USCGC Dallas 716)
Nigeria (USCGC Chase)
So nine more units available. Lets hope Nigeria does not snatch some more from us.

US formally offers 2nd warship to AFP - The Philippine Star » News » Headlines
MANILA, Philippines - A top military official bared yesterday that the United States has formally offered to the Philippines a second warship that is expected to boost the country’s territorial defense capability.
Navy chief Vice Admiral Alexander Pama said the US sent last week a letter notifying them about the availability of another US Coast Guard cutter, Dallas.
“They (US) sent a letter offering us formally (the ship). They are telling us this is available and their government has approved (the giving of the ship to the Philippines). They are asking us if we are interested,” Pama said.
He said the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is expected to reply to the letter next week.
“We will respond to the letter and tell them that we are interested. Once they receive that, the formal, detailed discussion would start,” Pama said.
