based on the explanation therein, it would seem that "brake assist" is nothing new. it has been in our cars since the 70s. every car with a brake booster (that big drum in the engine bay in front of the driver) has brake assist.
in fact, it would be strange if a modern car had none.
well, except for diesels. their power brakes are different.

Brake Assist is different from Brake Boost or Power Assisted Brakes ... Brake Assist system will apply full brake pressure during emergencies ...
