This gives me the impression that new cars are "magnet to dents".

The first time I used the 2.0 L Jetta, I discovered that it has back up sensors and functioning properly. I don't have this with my CR-V 98 but instead a back up camera. So as I was backing up, the sensors were giving me those high pitched sounds and so my friend warned me. I answered back, "Don't worry, it's still very far." Just as I finished my word, we heard a big "scratch"! They all laughed at me saying, "The sensors are working, that's great!" I kept my mouth shut.

Several months ago as I was using the Mazda 6, I turned to the usual corner that I pass and hit a flower pot. I thought I was far from it and I didn't feel anything back then not until I reached our garage to find out the big dent from that flower pot.

I know and I've seen the pot, I just thought I'm still far from it (again).

According to your post, you didn't see the post. That post must be a short post!

If anything, your story have consoled me with all the scratches and dents that I have.

    😀

You'll get used to it, just like me.

This is why I think backup sensors should still be standard even with oem backup cams.

If it's of any consolation, I backed my forester into a steel barrier used to block the parking slot behind me. It was raining and the back up camera was blurred by the water droplets. Made me think that back up sensor should have been your first upgrade. Oops, too late.

I did wish my FXT had the back up sensors also but after a few months of using just the rear camera, I gauged properly the distances with the colored lines shown on the camera.

The more safety aids the merrier. 🙂 They're also handy for those idiot mc riders who speed into your path while you're backing up.

I also nicked my bumper of my Forester SH when it was new. For some reason, the backup camera initially gave me tunnel vision and I was just focused on what was on the screen instead of my usual way of checking everything around the back.

Ah yes definitely. When it's raining hard, the back up cam can't give you better visibility. The back up sensor is still an old friend to trust.
