Masyado atang confident ito si Pacman sa laban nya kay Diaz. Mga 6-8 weeks lang daw ang kelangang preparation sa laban nyang ito. Yung kalaban nya si Diaz, may 2 weeks nang nagi-ensayo. Sa June 28 na ang laban.

sana isa lang to sa mga publicity stunt ni arum para mas maraming bumili ng tickets at PPV. llamado kasi masyado si pacquiao. yup sa june 28 nga naka schedule ang laban

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Add Juan Manuel Lopez to the roll call of Puerto Rican champions.

Following in the footsteps of such notable star champions from the island as Felix Trinidad and Miguel Cotto, Juan Manuel Lopez scored a stunning and unexpected first-round knockout of Mexico's Daniel Ponce De Leon to win a junior featherweight world title on Saturday night at Boardwalk Hall.

Lopez, a 2004 Olympian, was the mandatory challenger but an underdog against the heavy punching Ponce De Leon, who had scored so many highlight reel knockouts in his career.

But Lopez, 24, turned the tables, and he did it quickly.

After Ponce De Leon began the round aggressively, Lopez caught him with left-right combination and knocked him down.

Ponce De Leon (34-2, 30 KOs) got up quickly, but was unsteady and it was apparent he had very little left.

Lopez (22-0, 19 KOs) attacked him and unloaded six unanswered punches until finally knocking him sideways and down into the ropes for the second knockdown.

Although Ponce De Leon, who was making his seventh title defense, made it to his feet, he was in bad shape and referee Michael Ortega called it off at 2:25.

"I knew he was hurt and it was just a question of time until I landed another strong punch," Lopez said. "I just needed to be smart because I knew he was so strong."

The bout between southpaws was the main undercard fight on the show headlined by the Kelly Pavlik-Gary Lockett middleweight championship fight.

Ponce De Leon, 27, who represented Mexico in the 2000 Olympics, had only lost one previous fight, a decision to Celestino Caballero, who later won a world title. He was shocked by the defeat.

"He surprised me," Ponce De Leon said. "I came so confident, but he hits hard. He knocked me down, but I think I could continue fighting. I'm OK physically and I hope he can give me a rematch."

Lopez, a blue-chip prospect since the day he turned pro with Top Rank, finally fulfilled the promise many believed he had.

"I know we were both hard punchers, but I thought I had more ability," Lopez said. "I always had that great belief in myself but people have wanted me to show it. I hope I did. I hope I showed it to all of the people tonight, especially the people of Puerto Rico."

Given that the fight so quick and easy, Top Rank is considering bringing Lopez back for his first defense on Aug. 30 on the pay-per-view card headlined by junior flyweight champion Ivan "Iron Boy" Calderon's rematch with Hugo Cazares.

Pacquiao is now no. 1 P4P. Boxing critics have long been placing him over or tied with Mayweather for the top spot. With Mayweather's retirement that distinction solely belongs to pacman. A win against Diaz will likely cement him on that spot until the end of the year.

MANILA, Philippines—When Manny Pacquiao fights David Diaz on June 28, he will carry with him the awesome reputation as the world’s No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter.
Formerly ranked No. 2 by FightFan.com, the Filipino ring icon was elevated to the top on Sunday following the retirement of former topnotcher Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Saturday.
The Filipino ring superstar also used to hold Ring Magazine’s pound-for-pound honor.
Pacquiao, the reigning World Boxing Council titlist, is seeking Diaz’s WBC lightweight belt at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
A victory over Diaz will make the GenSan superstar the first Asian to hold four crowns in different divisions and the first Filipino to rule the 135-pound category.
The 29-year-old Pacquiao, also acclaimed as the world’s best fighter in 2006, made his professional debut at 106 lb in 1995 and has been fighting top boxers since 2003.
Among Pacquiao’s prominent victims are Mexican greats Marco Antonio Barrera, whom he beat twice, and Eric Morales, whom he defeated twice in their fight trilogy.
Pacquiao beat World Boxing Organization British super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe for the honor.
Another Mexican, Juan Manuel Marquez, from whom Pacquiao wrested the super featherweight crown in March 15 also in Las Vegas, was rated No. 3.
Mexican WBC super bantam champion Israel Vasquez came in fourth, followed by unbeaten Puerto Ricans Miguel Cotto, the WBA welterweight champion, and Ivan Calderon, respectively.
Ranked from seventh to 10th were Bernard Hopkins, Kelly Pavlik, Winky Wright and Rafael Marquez.
Meanwhile, Diaz turned 32 on Sunday in his hometown in Chicago, where he has been in training at the JABB gym since last month.

i thought ponce de leon was fighting good until being timed by a right hand. his hands were fast. he had his jab working but unfortunately, his defense was not. and against a good boxer with decent power, that is not good.

i want them to fight again as I believe any 1st round KO between 2 good fighters is not really an indication of their talent and performance against each other. and who not want to watch a banger like ponce de leon.

if only gerry peñalosa has that killer instinct as juan manuel lopez or pacman, plus his power and boxing ability, he should be richer and more popular than ever.
