Question to the detailing gurus. I have a few visible scratches that I got from the carwash when they were drying my car(Kaya I promise myself to DIY wash much as I can and not opt to go the easier rout). I've read the long detailing thread and what it basically says is start with the least abrasive product when correcting scratches. Here is what I'm planning on doing
1. Clay the scratched area to be polished(is this needed for spot jobs?)
2. Mothers Phase 1 Pre-Wax cleaner
3. Mothers Scratch Remover(If pre-wax cannot take out the scratch)
4. Mothers FX Syn Wax
I'm planning on using Syn Wax to seal the polished area because I currently have Klasse Twins applied to my paint. I read somewhere that synthetics(Klasse?) and carnauba don't mix. Is my plan of action correct?
Your thoughts please.
PS when apply Phase 1 and Scratch remover:
1. Use applicator to put product on the scratch area.
2. Let the product haze?
3. Work the product in using light circular motions.
4. Do I have a waiting period before I seal the polish?

Execu-jock: First of all, how deep is the scratch? Am afraid that you won't be able to remove that by hand, you'll have to use a rotary for that, or have a pro do it. Am basing it on experience. You could try it tough first by hand.
2. Mothers Phase 1 Pre-Wax cleaner
Mothers Scratch Remover(If pre-wax cannot take out the scratch)
AFAIK, you can mix sealants and carnuba waxes, just apply the sealant first. However, carnuba waxes somewhat lessens the durability of sealants if am not mistaken
Good luck HTH.

as I mentioned earlier to ILD, I did some painting, wet-sanding and some polishing earlier this week on my daily ride. while doing that, I took some pictures to record the process...
here's a pic below of a rock chip on the front-right panel after some spot-painting and wet-sanding (i used 1500 then moved up to 2000 grit)
ok.. medyo malabo ang pic so here's another na may flash.
BTW, before ako nag-wetsand, I also took the liberty of claying the surrounding area and adjacent panels using Mother's. bad trip kasi ang over-spray.

I then got some 3M Rubbing Compound and coupled it with a Cutting Pad on my trusty Makita and proceeded to buff out the sand marks.
Here's a pic after:

another pic from a different angle:
oh I almost forgot to mention: after using the Cutting Pad, I switched to DACP with a Polishing Pad (still with a Rotary) to get those results.

I also worked on another panel on the rear-left side of my car. (sinabit ko sa drive thru ng mcdo kasi.. hehehe)
to remove the long scratches, I wet-sanded it with 1000 grit to see whether umabot na sa masilya. luckily, hindi naman umabot. repaint lang needed. so after painting it with 2-3 coats of base, I also gave it some clearcoat.
here's a pic after painting and wet-sanding.. andaming orange peel nga pala nito. oh, BTW, I gave it around 4 days for the paint to dry before I wet-sanded the panel. nakabilad lang sa araw. ang init kasi this weekend eh.

since naubos na yung 3M rubbing compound ko, I decided to use Megs Compound Power Cleaner instead. i paired this with a cutting pad. then I moved on to DACP with a Polishing Pad.
here's a pic afterwards: (medyo madilim na.. inabot kasi ako ng maghapon nito. no helpers kasi *sigh*)
note na may buffing marks yung gas panel. tinamad na kasi ako i-cover yun. had to work on that after..
