Might be but to be on the safe side, don't maintain a constant speed, dapat varied... like say your in a highway cruising at 60kph accelerate to 80kph then decelerate 60kph or lower and so forth. Purpose of breaking in the engine is to let the gaskets and seals inside to set, also mechanical parts like brakes also needs a brake in period.

Actually, the break-in period is more for the familiarization of the driver with his new unit... All vehicles are subjected to harshness and speed tests at the plant prior to release for sale.

You should see how fast the Toyota Innova is tested at the Sta. Rosa Plant. It stays still while the wheels are accelerated on rollers at astonishing speeds. I sometimes think the unit will fly off the test area and hit someone.

Besides, I only stayed at 140kph for just a few seconds... ILD is right. It's better to vary your speed... I checked my oil nga kanina just to make sure that it hasn't turned dark.

Friends, I wouldn't recommend following my stupid behavior...

Pwede but make sure you don't stress your brakes too much. The engine may be broken in but the brakes aren't.

Got mine last june, 3.0V, dark gray mica.
First tank aver 7.06 km/L and MID was a similar figure.
Compared to the trooper, the ride is firm but less roll on mountain roads.
Used the "HL" setting on some dirt roads to see if center diff lock light stays on.
Lacks the "hooks" in the cargo area for tying down stuff.
I've been told to use Toyota oils only if i want to keep the engine warranty.
Can't wait to take it on a long drive- like Baguio!

I just came in through the southbound E-Pass toll booth at the SkyWay, when this white and silver Alterra suddenly appears at my right, also coming from the toll booth. The driver obviously slowed down to check-out my ride. Within a few seconds, he just accelerated, as if trying to make me eat his dust. My stupid ego couldn't take his behavior, so I gave chase.

Thanks to the higher torque of the Fortuner I overtook him a few seconds into the chase at an uphill portion coming from the toll booth. I could see him trying to give chase, but, to no avail... I reached 140kph, 2Kms away from the Bicutan exit. Had to decelerate as I neared the off-ramp. I just hope that Alterra driver was no tsikoteer...

Got off the shot below as I was 1Km away from the Bicutan SkyWay off-ramp. It's kinda fuzzy, but, you can make out my deceleration to 130kph.

Hope this doesn't reach the authorities...
Vicoyski, you are under arrest for overspeeding and reckless driving. Thank you for your testimony. Whatever you wrote here and the picture you have taken will be used against you in the court of law.

Bottomline. Is it worth shelling the 300K for the D4D? Lets say one plans to use the Fortuner mostly and mainly for city driving, with some out-of-town (Tagaytay or destinations with similar road conditions) use maybe once or twice a year. Which is better to get? Btw, I'm really after engine performance in the short and long term use. 4WD system not important (although it comes with the D4D) since I won't have the heart to throw the vehicle into the mud or some potentially harmful environment.
Sorry for the double post, but this got buried quickly without being answered first.

number001,
1) you can hardly hear the D4D engine at either idle or accelerating.
2) lots of torque in a diesel, even more so in a common rail for a 3.0L output.
3) could base it on your aver mileage per year, if you're doing less than 15k km then go for the gas version. The 4x2 should also weigh less, so less pedal pressure to get moving.

Congratulation! Jackroo on your new ride! I hope you got your unit without much encumbrances from your dealer. Gray Mica, that is a nice color, especially since everyone seems to be on silver, black or white! Its (gray mica) a rare color along with the brown champagne, which I really liked.

On a related note:

Toyota's quite shrewd. They allocate around 20 units of Fortuner per dealer. Out of the 20 units, 16 units are the diesel/4WD, while only 4 units for the Gas/2WD. This would force people who are too excited or hasty to get their units instead to get the diesel/4WD even if they initially wanted the Gas and have no use for the 4WD. Nice profit margin on the 4WD units! P300K more essentially two things: Diesel engine and 4WD system.

Welcome to all owners of Toyota Fortuner [ARCHIVED]
