What would be more impressive is if those planes were actually armed... Your goverment hasn't even bidded out who'll supply the cannon rounds for the jets, let alone AAM missles. Only good thing those jets can do is to ram the enemy for now.

The first batch of two jets were delivered in November last year but were not combat-ready as their munitions have yet to undergo a separate procurement process. It could take two to three years more before the jets can be completely armed.

So they are ceremonial jets? not the dreaded fighter jets?

they are primarily trainers with combat capability thrown in. they are not front line fighter aircraft.

Does anyone work/live near Ortigas CBD? i swear i heard what sounded like a jet making 3-4 passes yesterday afternoon. imho,it sounded too fast to be an airliner.

This morning sa office, meron uli, although this time it sounded slower. On both occassions it sounded too smoth for a genset or construction equipment.

Eto na ba yung mga FA-50s natin?

i'm kinda glad they went with a staggered/gradual approach to this. You can't expect our pilots to immediately know how to fly a jet fighter agad agad. And while they're still trying to get a feel of the fighter, those munitions would have ended in up storage anyways.

What did people expect -- buy a jet for the PAF, and we can reclaim the disputed islands? It's a little more complicated than that. And we haven't even talked about the supporting infra(radar, maintenance crew) that comes with it.

Not to mention the basing support that comes with such aircraft. It's not as if these planes are just parked on the Tarmac.

Its normal for weapons to be sold/procured/delivered separate from the aircraft. Otherwise it would be politically difficult to overfly and refuel in foreign countries. These FA-50s were flown from SoKor and refueled in Taiwan before landing at Clark. The T-50s bought by Indonesia also took the same route and also refueled at Mactan before arriving in Indonesia.
