i've been using avg free edition for a very long time already, and i've thought that it's doing its job pretty well. until i bought a laptop 2 weeks ago that comes with a free norton antivirus. when i transferred some files from my desktop to my laptop, norton detected a virus. which means that the virus got past avg.
so is there a better than avg antivirus out there that is free?

i dont like norton (package sa lappy ko) can cause heavy loading sa laptop in the long run... tagal magboot, also may virus na di nya madetect and delete if he founds one..
gamit ko sa lappy ko AVAST kasi maliit lng resources... lahat ata ng mga virus scanner may weakness, kasi may hindi nakikita sa norton nakikita sa avast.....
one time di ako maka internet, firewall is ok but no internet ping and traceroute can't trace, no ym, no DL, nung uninstall ko na Norton ayun may internet na ako... back to AVAST na lang ako...Last edited by radiazone; November 17th, 2006 at 11:08 PM.

Different experience naman saken... AVG ang ok, norton ang hindi. Usually AVG antivirus, EWIDO anti-spyware, and Spybot S&D gamit ko pang-scan. Di kasi talaga effective ang solo lang IMO dahil nga may ibang virus/trojan/worm na nadedetect at hindi nadedetect ng particular na program.

November 17th, 2006 11:31 PM #5I've been using CA eTrust EZ Anti-Virus for more thean 5 years na. Wala pa rin nakakalusot na virus sa system ko dahil twice or thrice a day kung mag-update ng virus signatures yung eTrust. May bago silang version and is called CA Security Center which includes an anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-spam and a personal firewall. Got my copy for $29.99 para sa isang taon then renewal na lang.

My experience with AVG is similar to Boybi's. After I installed the latest Norton Antivirus, I actually started getting virus warnings, after a long period of lull under AVG's watch.
Among the other virus scans, I dont recommend McAfee. It is not smart. It eratically detects anything as a virus threat and provides the only solution to rid of such virus is to delete important windows *.exe files.

actually, i think a lot of the virus authors make viruses just for kicks, or for bragging rights. remember the "Love Bug" guy?
some AV software may not be able to completely remove the viruses from a previous infection; gawa na rin ata ng pagka polymorphic nila. some snippets of dormant code may be left behind, which other AV software may detect as virii. Which is the most frustrating to me, kasi di mo na sigurado kung clean ka na nga ba or not.
currently trying out BitDefender -- medyo bumagal ung pc ko since installation B)Last edited by badkuk; November 17th, 2006 at 11:53 PM.
