Last month, a few things happened at home. I bought a large-screen LED TV and a 5.1 home theater system. That was also the same month I replaced most of our CFLs with LEDs.

For me, it's all about diverting electricity to the cool "stuff". You can look at it in a way that you can add more appliances at home without your electricity bill breaking a spot of sweat. So, even with the addition of the big TV and HT, my bill came out about half a grand cheaper than in June.

To put things into perspective, the CFL bulbs I replaced had a cumulative wattage of about 234W. The LEDs that replaced them have a cumulative wattage of only 66W. That gave me around 168W to play with. The HT+TV uses about 115-125W at the outlet (LED TV ftw!) and needless to say, I still have change left.

IMO, LED bulbs is practical if you will use it for an extended period of time (e.g. 24/7, overnight daily, etc)

Otherwise, I will personally just use CFL due to price difference.

^ same here, at home we rarely have lights that is used for more than 8 hours per day. Will wait for cheaper versions for the 8 hour lights.

    true.

i bought 2 brands to test. NXled and OMNI. the heat sink of NXled is not to warm to touch, while the heat sink of OMNI is warmer to touch. so which one is better? google is giving me different answers hehe

Like what TS said, if 24/7 use naman within a few months ROI na. The rest is savings na.
Yes lumens is the more accurate way to compare brightness. But, cdrking did not post the lumens they just said its about equal to a 40 watt incandescent bub so its a fair comparission.

    CDR KING

And their warranty is 1 year with 1 week replacement.

I just bought 2 Osram bulbs. A 2 U cfl 13 watts rated at 805 lumens P99.00 at Ace Hardware and a 18 watt spiral rated at 1166 lumens. Thats what the dti sticker says. I dont know why you find the LED brighter than the 20 watt spiral. I'm guessing its due to the age of the spiral cfl. CFLs tend to loose brightness as it ages. I forgot the term for it. LEDs do not suffer from this.

probably because of the age also. LED looses its brightness din after 50% of its life. nabasa ko lang somewhere.

You are correct. That was my mistake. My roof was too low so heat transfer was awful.

Rough comparison of light intensity between LED and CFL:

    7W LED = 20W CFL
    4W LED = 11W CFL
    3W LED = 9W CFL

These are all 4th generation LEDs, or so I've been told.
Can you pls post the lumens of the LEDs. It will help us compare them to cfls. From my understanding. CFL is about 5X brighter than a incandscent bulb while LEDs are 10X brighter. Meaning a 20 watt CFL is roughly equivqlent to a 100 watt bulb while a 9 watt LED is about equal to a 90 watt bulb. I know there are a lot of other factors to consider such as reflector, color, temp etc... but as a ball park I think it will do.

If anyone knows a cheap source for LEDs to replace FL bulbs, I'm interested in buying. Need to save.

For me the savings will only be realized If you replaced all your existing bulbs to LED.. Pero naman you'll be spending a big sum of money still not worth it
