I have one on my TOYOTA CELICA in New jersey and a Cobra CB Radio with a K40 antenna monitor always on channel 19 were almost all the trucker tune . The brand of radar detector is FOX .visor clip mount . It is very important to me .I always travel at Route 95 highway .From my house Oxon hill Maryland going to Bethesda MD.takes less than an hour without traffic. Its like MANILA to Angeles distance . The state tropper we call them SMOKEY .OR GRASSHOPPER always hiding in the bush with radar detector. One time we were going to New Jersey on the highway i remember There one guy in a Mazda RX-7 . A BMW , Were driving over the speed limit and i see my radar detector beep and light . I slow down and after a few minutes a trooper pull down the guy with a mazda RX7 . I saw also the BMW has a radar detector also which light also. The CB radio is also important because trucker who approach a state tropper will warn other vehicle who monitor in channel 19. In VIRGINIA it is illegal to use radar detector. Just sharing my experience.

Prices differ between brands/models and levels of detection. Just google for the sites selling them. I got the V1 because it offered the best detection. But it is also one of the most expensive as well.
Currently, this is not illegal, right? :DLast edited by ghosthunter; September 3rd, 2009 at 03:42 PM.

September 3rd, 2009 04:59 PM #53How far is the distance of the radar/laser speed checker before the detector sensed it? Could it give a warning 1km before reaching radar/laser range?

It would take an act of Congress to make it illegal.
Of course, since the only ones who would benefit from the banning of such devices are the people running the NLEX... there's not much chance of this happening.
Hell... wang wangs are illegal, and nobody is clamping down on those guys...

It doesn't take a Republic Act to make radar detectors (or similar devices) illegal. Even a mere Executive Order or Presidential Decree will do. (PD 96 banned the use of sirens, flashing dome lights, etc. by civilians or non-authorized agencies. Caveat: AFAIK, PD's were issued only during martial law).
Heck, under the local government code, even LGU's, through ordinances, can outlaw such devices.

Well, let's put it this way, it's a detector. How the driver reacts to the warnings is beyond it's design. There are also precautions on how you drive to make best use of it's features like dropping your speed (to a more sane 150kph or whatever you want to call sane) when approaching a blind rise in the road until the detector has time to "check" ahead before proceeding "normally".
