The question is not whether there is a God.
The question is whether there is a God worth worshipping.
In other words: Are prayers answered?
The short answer is: The instances in which prayers seem answered are balanced out or outweighed by the instances in which they seem not to be.
Ergo: If there is a God, he is not God the Alpha (personal, caring), but simply God the Omega (creator, nothing else).

September 8th, 2013 01:00 AM #12This is what i tell myself, even though i have trouble accepting it at times:
Think about it, if God always made his presence felt, ready to send you to hell if you did something bad, what would you do?
What if you looked around and didn't see God? You start to think God doesn't exist. Ayun, labasan na ng sungay.
My point: it's easier to see one's true nature when there is no imminent threat of damnation. So God pretends not to be there, but is constantly watching. Once you reach the checkout counter of life, that's only when our accounts get settled.
What i can't answer is, why not just do away with the charade, push a button and send all bad people straight to hell right this instant :p

If you need "God" to tell you why it's wrong to hurt other people needlessly, then you're not a very good human being.
It's fairly simple to arrive at human rights in the absence of a Paternal, Patriarchal God.
By logic, these rights are self-evident:
1. The human right of life. If you do not hold this right as self-evident, you do not value your own life (as you are a human) and you can be killed. If you then say: "I value my own life, I don't give a crap about others." Then society is within its rights to kill you, as you are a danger to others.
2. The human right to live their life as they see fit. Everyone has the right to eat what they want, sleep with whomever they want to, and act as they wish. They have the right to do the things necessary to further their own life (work, gather food) and to own property that helps them do this. This right extends only as far as themselves. They do not have the freedom to do things that will trample upon other people's rights to do these things.
Ex. Your method of work deprives other people of property, because you are a professional thief. By logic, wrong.
If you do not respect people's rights to freedom, then other people have no need to respect your right to these freedoms, and can take them away from you. Thus, mutual respect is in your best interest.

No need for God. But whether there is a God or not, it is in our best interests to respect the rights of other people and to generally treat them nice.Last edited by niky; September 8th, 2013 at 03:04 AM.

What I meant is:
If there is no god, then the theory of evolution must be correct. Now if we all came from apes then we will all be wild up to this point of time. Then so, somewhere along the line there was a "selective" intervention who shaped those apes' behaviors and characters which became men. So the Theory about Ancient Aliens must be true as well?
So this will boil down to if you believe that god exist, you also believe that we all came from Adam and Eve. If you believe that there is no god, do you admit that you came from apes?

wtf
if you need a god or religion to keep your animal nature in check then you're not much of a human being
you're closer to being an animal than a human
have to took into consideration that there are man-made laws that govern behavior?
if you go around raping women and killing everyone in sight wouldnt law enforcement hunt you down?
even if there are no man-made laws the loved ones of those you raped or killed will hunt you down
human beings are social creatures and it is in the best interest of an individual to behave in an acceptable way
that's how human societies evolved
before there were any laws there were unwritten codes of conduct

exactly what someone who doesnt understand evolution would say
humans did not come from apes
apes and humans had a common ancestor
there was a split or divergence long ago so apes and humans evolved separately
the evolutionary tree is full of divergences
all life on earth had a common ancestor
but of course to people who don't believe in evolution it's all bullshitLast edited by uls; September 8th, 2013 at 02:37 PM.

i posted this Sept. 14, 2011

lagi tanong ng mga believer sa non-believer --
if you dont believe in God, what's to stop you from going around killing people?
DUH!
why would i go around killing people? i'm not a violent person
i dont wanna screw up my life by killing someone
i don't want the stress of hiding from people who will take revenge on me for killing their loved one
i don't wanna get jailed. i don't wanna lose my freedom. i don't wanna ruin my life
what kind of a question is that?
just coz you don't believe in God meron ka na license to kill?
what kind of thinking is that?
IF BELIEVING IN GOD IS THE ONLY THING STOPPING YOU FROM KILLING PEOPLE THEN YOU ARE A VERY DANGEROUS PERSON
what if you lose your faith?
you become a mass murderer?
--
and an equally dangerous person is one who kills coz his God told him to
